Pink Out!
AP Exam Registration
AP students will be signing up and paying for AP exams tomorrow in the library from 8:00 to 9:00 AM. We will be accepting cash or checks only. The cost per exam is $25. Students who have qualified for free or reduced lunch will pay $10 per exam. Students should be registered in the AP Classroom and indicate their plan to take the exam. If you are taking second semester AP course, there will be another opportunity in March to pay for that exam. Please see Ms. Ramos if you have any questions or extenuating circumstances.
While the exam may be optional, the benefits make it worth a try. Research shows students who take AP courses and exams have better college outcomes than their peers. Even if they don’t earn scores that qualify them for credit or placement, students who achieve AP Exam scores of 2:
•Are still more likely to attend college and graduate on time (than academically similar students who don’t take AP).
•Do significantly better in introductory college classes (compared to academically similar students who don’t take that corresponding AP Exam).
•Often earn a higher score on the subsequent AP Exams they take.
Be a Book Fairy!
From Baala Shakya, our Sophomore Class President:
“I signed on with Yale University Press with my organization, The Book Fairies, to campaign as a recently elected National Official, and as the Texas State Official here in San Antonio! I will be one of the hosts for a National event on Saturday, October 23rd, promoting one of Yale University Press’ most recent books: “How to Enjoy Art” by art historian Ben Street!”
To join in on the event or to become a Book Fairy, please send an email to bookfairiestexas@gmail.com or shakyabaala@gmail.com!
About the Book Fairies:
Launched in March 2017 by Emma Watson, the Book fairies are people who, when they’ve finished reading a good book, want a unique and fun way to pass it on to the next person. They pop an official book fairy sticker on it, which reads ‘take this book, read it & leave it for the next person to enjoy’, and they might even add a ribbon to dress it up as a gift. When they’ve prepared their gift, they will hide it in public to be found…
About the Yale University Press:
By publishing serious works that contribute to a global understanding of human affairs, Yale University Press aids in the discovery and dissemination of light and truth, lux et veritas, which is a central purpose of Yale University. The publications of the Press are books and other materials that further scholarly investigation, advance interdisciplinary inquiry, stimulate public debate, educate both within and outside the classroom, and enhance cultural life. In its commitment to increasing the range and vigor of intellectual pursuits within the university and elsewhere, Yale University Press continually extends its horizons to embody university publishing at its best.
