Volleyball Breaks Regular Season Wins Record

Congratulations to the volleyball program on breaking the record for regular season wins. The Lady Vikings finished the regular season 31-1-1 after knocking off Lafayette for the first time since 2005. The volleyball program is currently ranked #2 in the State and is ranked in all three national high school volleyball polls. The Lady Vikings will have the opportunity to break the all-time program record for wins in a season with two wins this coming week. Our "Spiking Vikings" have earned the #1 seed in the Class 4 District 7 Tournament at FZE and will face the winner of FHC/FZN on Tuesday night at 5pm. With a win on Tuesday the Lady Vikings would advance to the District Championship game on Wednesday night at 6pm at FZE. Eleven Choir Students Selected For Metro 8 Choir

Howell will have 11 Viking Choir students represented in the nearly 150 member Metro 8 District Honor Choir this year. Howell students earning this honor are Addi Struckman, Rachel Anthonis, Emma Witter, Erik Kiewiet, Madalyn Wheeler, Grace Kuiper, Madi Jackson, Rebekah Anthonis, Lindsi Wilfing, Emily Hale and Marissa Gibbons.


Additionally, an impressive number of 6 of these Viking Singers scored high enough to qualify for a MO All-State Honor Choir audition. Those students are Madalyn Wheeler, Grace Kuiper, Madi Jackson, Rebekah Anthonis, Lindsi Wilfing and Emily Hale.


The 2016 St. Louis Metro 8 Honor Choir will be led by Dr. Cameron LaBarr from Mo State University. The concert will be held at 4pm on Saturday, Nov. 12 at Lindenwood 's Scheidegger Center for the Performing Arts.

Winter Meet The Coaches Set For October 18th

The winter season "Meet the Coaches" has been set for October 18th. Eligibility paperwork turn in will begin at 5:15 p.m. in the high school commons with the meeting portion beginning at 6:00 p.m. All eligibility paperwork must be complete to be turned in. All students participating in a winter MSHSAA sponsored activity must have this completed prior to the first day on October 31st. It is recommended that all paperwork be turned in at the "Meet the Coaches" event on October 18th. To ensure participation on October 31st all fully complete paperwork must be turned in no later than October 27th at noon. A link to all eligibility paperwork can be found below.

Fall Programs Having Success In Classroom

At Howell, high expectations are put on student-participants in the classroom, in activity/sport and in the community. It has been a very successful season in the many fall activities and sports so far in 2016. We recently shared with Viking fans the many outreach and community service programs that our student-participants have taken part in during the fall. We would also like to share with you the great things going on in the classroom wiht our fall program as well. This fall 20 of 22 fall activity programs currently have an attendance rate over 97%. Overall, students involved in an activity or sport at Howell have an attendance rate of 98% which is 1.5% higher than those not participating in an activity or sport.

Band Has Another Great Competition At Mizzou

Congratulations to Band on a very successful weekend at Mizzou on Saturday. The Band earned a first place finish in prelims to kick off the competition. In the finals our Viking Band finished 4th overall and were awarded 2nd place for music. The band will wrap up this weekend at the St. Genevieve Marching Contest and will then host their own competition on October 29th.

Football Ends Regular Season 7-2; Hosts Troy In 1st Round Of Playoffs

The Missouri State High School Football playoffs will begin on Friday, October 21st as the Vikings take on the Troy Trojans at 7 p.m. at home. At this point the Vikings will have home field advantage for at least the first district playoff game but could host additional home games depending on the outcome of games on October 21st. Below is a list of potential game times and admission costs for the state playoffs. Please note that these are all MSHSAA sponsored events and activity and staff passes are not accepted. These are not Francis Howell High School events. Tickets for the October 21st playoff game will go on sale at all lunches during the week of October 17th. Tickets will also be on sale in the Activities Office all week. It is strongly encouraged to purchase your tickets ahead of time to avoid long lines.

Football Selling Pink Out Shirts For October 21st Game

The football program will be selling pink out shirts during lunch on Thursday & Friday. For just $10 you can purchase a "Pink Out" shirt to wear to the game on Friday, Oct. 21. All proceeds from shirt sales will benefit cancer research. You can view the design for the t-shirt below.

Howell Student-Participants Attend FHSD Activities Leadership Summit

Student-participants at Howell continue to work to carry out the #RISE core values of respect, integrity, sportsmanship and excellence as well as work towards developing leadership skills to no only make them better in their activity or sport bu also in life. One such program aimed at developing leadership skills at Howell is the Viking Leadership Academy. Better known as VLA, the Viking Leadership Academy meets twice a month before school and offers leadership development training for anyone that is involved in an activity, club or sport at Howell. This program is developmed to help ensure that students are not only just improving in their activity, club or sport at Howell but they are also improving as leaders and people.


Last week during fall break the three FHSD Activities Departments hosted an Activities Leadership Summit for student participants. Those that attended were able to hear presentations from Jim Powers (HS Sports Caravan, Maryville University) and Todd Zell (MSHSAA) regarding social medai usage and the "Why We Play" initiative. Student-participants were also exposed to several leadership and team building activities with members from FHC and FHN. At the end of the day all students were able to write their "Why Statement" on why they are involved in activities and sports at Howell.


Thank you to all of our Howell participants and to FHN for hosting the event. We look forward to seeing our student-participants putting these new skills into action this week.

JV Volleyball Wins GAC South Championship

Congratulations to the JV Volleyball team on winning the GAC South Championship on Saturday. The JV Lady Vikings had a strong season and finished the year 24-5-2 with tournament wins at Lutheran St. Charles, Howell, and the GAC Championship. Congratulations to this hard working group of ladies on a great 2016 season!

Bridget Schulte Finishes 22nd Out Of 89 At State

Congratulations to Bridget Schulte for finishing a great girls golf career at Francis Howell last week. Bridget shot an 85 and 80 at the Columbia Country Club in the MSHSAA Girls Golf State Championships. The combined score of 165 earned her a 22nd place finish. Congratulations to Bridget on a great four years!

Coach Carlson Finishes 1st Out Of 1075 In Rock N Roll St. Louis 5K

Congratulations to Coach Carlson, our head cross country coach on her first place finish in the Rock 'n' Roll St. Louis 5K on Saturday. Coach Carlson finished first out of 1075 female runners. Congratulations to Coach Carlson in not only leading our cross country runners everyday, but in also leading the Rock 'n' Roll St. Louis 5K!

Boys Swim Volunteers With KEEN

Being involved in an activity, club or sport at Francis Howell is about more than just competing or being involved with that group. All programs take part in outreach and community support. The boys swim program has partnered with KEEN (Kids Enjoy Exercise Now). KEEN is a program that aims at taking trained volunteers to work one on one with children that have disabilities. The program emphasis allowing kids with significant challenges the opportunity to have fun and be successful. The boys swim team is currently working with kids to help them learn to swim and also enjoy the water. Due to the large turnout by our swim program the KEEN program was able to open up more spots for kids and take several off of their waiting list. Thank you to our boys swim program for making such a huge difference in our community and young kids lives!
