The Manning Weekly Newsletter
August 16, 2019
Dear Families,
This afternoon after school, I met a mother who told me that on Wednesday, her 6th grader enjoyed school so much, he didn't want to come home! That's definitely reason for our staff to be proud.
After this first half week of school, our hope is that each of our students feels welcome here and is heading into the weekend believing that Manning will be a good place for them. As a staff, we wanted to use these first few days to accomplish three things:
- orient the students to a new environment
- help them understand our rules and norms
- show them that we are a friendly and welcoming place
We did this through an orientation schedule for 6th graders, an end-of-day assembly for 7th and 8th graders, and ice breaker activities in classes. It's nice to have a half week to settle back into the routine of school, and then come back on Monday ready to go.
One thing I learned these first two days is ... Your kids are great! Thank you for sending them to us!

Drop Off & Pick Up Procedures
Manning teachers and staff want to ensure the safety of our students before, during and after the school day. One element that plays a large part in students’ safety is the support and practice by parents of the Drop-Off/Pick-Up procedures as outlined below:
The interior of our building is open to students from 7:50am to 3:35pm. If dropped off before 7:50 or picked up after 3:35, students will need to wait outside. We appreciate your understanding that we need to ensure active supervision when students are in the building.
Parking and exiting a vehicle is prohibited along the yellow curb in front of the building and in the “bus loop” to the North of the building.
Please feel free to use both the Bus Loop and the Main Parking Lot in the mornings and afternoons to help alleviate congestion.
Parking along Alkire or along 32nd is prohibited.
Please keep traffic flowing by pulling up all the way to the end of your loop before letting your student out of your vehicle, and by filling in gaps between vehicles in cue. Sometimes, when a car stops in front of the main doors, it backs traffic up into the street.
We ask that both students and families utilize the crosswalks at the stoplight to cross either 32nd or Alkire.
We encourage families to stagger their pick ups at the end of the day as they naturally stagger drop off at the beginning of the day. You are welcome to pick up your students any time between the final bell and 15 minutes after school releases. There will be supervision in front of the building until then.
We ask that students and families stay off their phones and stay aware as they walk or drive through the parking lot.

At Manning, we strive to live our core values every day.
HONESTY
- For two days, Camden Byrnes persisted with a malfunctioning locker, hoping the problem would go away, but then he finally admitted the best thing to do would be ask for a new locker.
EFFORT
- Jayden Begay happily waited and held the door for every 6th grade student who was on their way back into the building from the cottages after orientation. Thanks for being such a helpful friend!
ACHIEVEMENT
- We made it through our first week with no discipline referrals to the office. Thank you to our students for being on such good behavior, and to our staff for setting high expectations!
RESPECT
- Jack Sandler was playing a competitive game in class and destroying everyone. He took a time out and taught everyone his strategy so everyone could have more fun and the game was better.
TEAMWORK
- My locker got jammed and Whitney Kringel was also at her locker at the time so she helped me un-jam it.
