Literacy Corner

For the past two weeks, we have been reviewing all of our literacy skills, along with introducing new word wall words. The students have been doing great with their literacy assessments thus far. Please review all skills taught. In regards to reading, please work with your child on sounding out words and giving a great retell. They need to know the main points of the story from beginning to end without jumping around from the middle, to end, to beginning of the story. While writing, please make sure that your child is beginning each sentence with a capital letter, spaces between each word, and a punctuation mark at the end. They also need to make sure that all sentences stay on topic.

We were able to learn about fairy tales between all of the assessments. The students loved reading some of the stories.

Next week we will continue to review skills and continue to work on our assessments.

Math Lab

This week in class we reviewed addition, subtraction, writing and identifying numbers that are greater, and 3D shapes.

Next week we will continue working on all the skills names, as well as work on measurement.

Parental FYI...

If your child brought home their "Classwork Folder", it is has work that they have not completed in the past few weeks. Please have your child complete the work at home, and return them to school. This is work that is very helpful with the review of many skills.

With all of the assessments going on in class, it is very important that the students are following the noise levels in class. Please talk with your child about following the expectations in class.

We will have a "Memories Day" on Tuesday, June 7. During this day, we will complete activities about memories of our kindergarten year, and pass out small gifts (tokens of our friendship) to our friends in class this year. Please have your child bring in a small inexpensive gift for each student in class. We will put these gifts in buckets for them to take home. Ms. Lytle and I are giving the students jump ropes. The items can be anything: candy, toys or school supplies. Pinterest has a lot of great suggestions for end of the year gifts for students if you would like some ideas.

This will be our last week bringing home our FRED books. Please make sure that you return your child's FRED book on Thursday, May 26th. Your child will not bring a book home on that night.

Please view the video below. It gives you some great information about Camp Invention which will be held at Rocky River this summer. This camp allows your child to work with other students, exploring their creative side and having fun in the process. This camp allows your child to continue to work on their reading, math and science skills without stress. It is a great camp to be involved in. I have worked the camp for the past two years and will be there again this year. Check it out...
