Excellent Opportunity from the YMCA!
Sorry for the late notice...I just got this information today!
Due to a very generous $10,000 grant from the Abilis community Foundation, The YMCA of Greenwich will be again offering a free six week course designed to teach basic water safety and swimming concepts to children ages 3-12 with special needs.
Classes are scheduled to begin on Saturday, Sep. 30, 2017 and will take place in the YMCA’s historic warm water pool. Each class will be 1/2 hour long. A class time of either 7:00 am, 7:30 am, 8;00 am or 8:30 am. will be assigned by the instructors.
Each class will include information that will grow a child’s water safety knowledge. The weekly lesson plans are custom designed to develop the aquatic skills that help to keep participants safe in, on and around the water. Our instructors factor in your child’s interests to help keep the learning fun.
Anyone interested in participating in this special needs program may email Betsy Culeman bculeman@gwymca.org. Admittance to the program is on a first-come, first served basis. Due to the popularity of this program, a child is only eligible for one free session.
Film Screening - "How to Dance in Ohio"
Join NEXT for AUTISM for a private screening of HOW TO DANCE IN OHIO on Tuesday, October 17th at Greenwich Country Day School's Performing Arts Center.
HOW TO DANCE IN OHIO spotlights a group of young people on the autism spectrum who spend 12 weeks practicing their social skills in preparation for a spring formal dance. Humorous and poignant, the intimate film focuses on three girls transitioning into adulthood, going inside their group therapy sessions, relationships with their families and private thoughts as they struggle to understand and navigate the social rules and the universally relatable feelings of suspense, trepidation and excitement that accompany a prom and first date.
Panel Guests:
Alexandra Shiva, Director and Producer
Liane Carter, Writer, Journalist and Autism Advocate
Jerry Philip, VP of Program Development, NEXT for AUTISM
