Fifth Grade Conferences-October 15th and 16th
I can't believe it is time to talk about conferences. This year is already flying by way too fast.
Fifth grade conferences will be not be held "arena style" in the gym like in past years. Each fifth grade teacher will be holding the standard twenty minute conference in their own rooms with their own parents/students. We felt it would be beneficial to spend more time with the parents of our homeroom students. I will be sharing information about your child's progress in science and social studies. An e-mail was sent out on September 17th asking for your date/time preferences. If you have already filled out a similar form for another teacher, I will be coordinating conference times with them. If you have any concerns regarding science or social studies, please let me know and I can do some research for you before our conference. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Guided Reading
In guided reading, your child is reading one of my favorite realistic fiction novels (Shiloh, Because of Winn-Dixie, or Tiger Rising) Discussing these books with the students is one of my most favorite parts of the day! Throughout this novel unit we are learning how to notice and note important "signposts" placed in the text by the author.
They will have assigned reading each week and a signpost sheet to fill out along the way.
