Jordan Middle School Dedication, October 18, 2015

Thank you for a wonderful dedication ceremony! Everyone contributed their time and talents to make this a beautiful dedication ceremony for the Jordan Family and our community. You truly made Jordan shine and I am so proud to be a part of such a great team. Thank you, again!

Congratulations to Mrs. Tracye Jones!

Mrs. Jones is the new administrative assistant to Dr. Marketa Myers, principal of Nesbit Elementary. Mrs. Jones will be moving to her new role on December 1, 2015. Mrs. Jones has done a fabulous job setting up our schedules, registering our students, maintaining our files, etc. We will truly miss her at JMS! We wish her the best at Nesbit ES!

Just a quick reminder to work on updating your data charts and inputting your RBES Goals by Tuesday, October 20th. All electronic copies are located on the JMS Training Page.

Winter Sport Season

We will soon have our first game of the season as Jordan MS! We are excited to have a great team of young women and men representing our great school. We have students involved in basketball, cheer, dance, and step. We are asking every team member at Jordan MS to volunteer for one home game this school year. We are hosting six home games at Central Gwinnett High School. Our games are played on either a Thursday or Saturday. Please use this link to select a date and desired area of support by October 30th. Thank you!

United Way Campaign

Our goal is for every team member at Jordan MS to make a contribution. Mr. Diep Nguyen is our campaign manager and has some great ideas how to involved both students and our team. You can make a one time donation or monthly payroll deduction from your GCPS portal. The campaign dates are October 7th - November 13th. Make an impact on our community!

SAMs Data Collection

I am part of the National SAM Innovation Project which shifts the work of the principal from management to instructional leader. As a SAM principal, I am engaged in four stages of the project: initial data collection, daily time track meetings, coaching, and yearly data collection. Although I've been a SAM principal for the past four years, I will have an initial data collection period, as Jordan MS is a new school.

The process requires an independent observer to collect data on my actions throughout the school day. The data collector will record my interactions every five minutes and classify these actions as either management or instructional. The data collector is a silent observer and will not engage in any type of interaction. I will have a data collector for three full days in October. The dates are October 20, 21, & 22, 2015. At first, it will be awkward not to speak to my data collector nor extend common courtesies such as holding doors open. You will soon adapt and not notice my shadow. Please let your students know about my data collector.

Nakesha Brown is my SAM, school administration manager and keeps my "Time Track" calendar daily. We will have daily meetings to review my progress and set goals. These meetings are scheduled and last for approximately 20 minutes. During our time track meetings, we will not be available.

Being involved with NSIP is an important professional endeavor for me, as this allows me to increase my effectiveness as an instructional leader. I'm more than happy to share more information with you. I've included a link, if you are interested in learning more about the program.

Mrs. Nakesha Brown is our local representative for open enrollment and benefits. Open enrollment begins on October 19th and ends on November 6th. Every team member at Jordan MS must participate in open enrollment. You can elect not to receive benefits, but you must make your selection electronically. Informational sessions and help sessions will be published from the county.

Great news: our insurance rates remain the same or some have seen a slight decrease in premiums.

Please do not wait until the last day to enroll, as the traffic on the website can be problematic. Information is available on the portal.

Surveys

We have several surveys for our students, parents, and teachers to complete within the next few weeks. As teachers, you have already participated in the Q12 Engagement Poll from Gallop. Our students completed the Student Engagement Inventory (SEI) earlier this school year. You will be asked to complete the GaDOE Personnel Survey during our professional learning day on Monday, October 12th.

We have the GTES student surveys which are GCPS and Student Health Surveys from the GaDOE. We are required to have 75% participation of our students.

Our parents are completing a GCPS parent survey and a GaDOE school climate survey. Please include this link in your communication with parents: http://apps.gadoe.org/schoolclimate/parents.nsf/Survey.xsp

Parents can complete the RBES survey in the front office or through their parent portal account.

Safe Trick or Treat

Please consider donating a bag of candy to support this event. The grade level offices will have one of the big yellow testing totes labeled for your donations. I will bring the items to CGHS on Tuesday, October 27th.

Please include a brief narrative describing how the team member exemplified community, leadership, or excellence. We will celebrate during our vertical team meetings on Fridays!
