Dressing up for Halloween
Students, we know that many of you get excited about Halloween and the opportunity to dress up. Additionally, Student Council is hosting a costume contest. So as you plan your costumes, please keep the following in mind as you consider your attire in addition to our school dress code:
Costumes cannot impede the progress of school:
Large costumes, inflatables or costumes that extend beyond your natural body size will not be allowed
No props
We must be able to clearly and easily identify you:
No face paint that covers the entirety of your face or makes you unrecognizable
No masks or head coverings other than a normal mask you are required to wear inside the school building to follow COVID protocols
In accordance with our dress code, costumes should not pose a threat to public or personal safety, and it should not be disruptive or distracting to classroom activity or your peers’ behavior.

PARENT PORTAL SUPPORT!
This is where attendance, grades, and other pertinent information will be stored for the duration of you child's high school career.
Dear Thompson School District/Mountain View HS Families,
We thank you and your family for being our valued partners as we work together to educate the children in our district. Thompson School District values input from our community – and we need to hear from your child or children!
In order to learn more about student experiences at school, we will be asking students in grades 3-12 to participate in an online survey. The survey content will ask students to self-reflect on emotion regulation, social awareness, growth mindset, perseverance, sense of belonging, school safety, and teacher-student relationships.
Your child will be invited to participate in this survey online during regular school hours during the week of November 8, 2021. When the survey is introduced, students will be invited to participate in the survey, as well as informed that they do not have to answer any questions that they do not wish to answer. The survey shouldn’t take more than 20-30 minutes to complete. Please click on these links for survey questions: Grades 3-5 Sample SEL Competencies Survey, Grades 6-12 Sample SEL Competencies Survey, Grades 3-5 Sample Supports & Environments Survey, Grades 6-12 Sample Supports & Environments Survey
Student responses to the survey will be confidential. We are partnering with a third-party vendor who has signed the district’s Data Privacy Agreement to ensure all required online encryption protocols are followed. The section of the survey regarding your child's feedback on their school is confidential, and staff will NOT know how your student responded individually. The section of the survey regarding your child's needs for support in growing their own social emotional skills is handled differently; while your child's teacher cannot see individual answers, they will be able to see your child's needs by topic (e.g., sense of belonging) to be able to support them appropriately.
Please notify us if you would like your child to opt out of taking the surveys by filling in your name and your child’s name below and returning it to school by November 8, 2021.
If you have any questions about the survey administration, please don’t hesitate to contact us at jane.harmon@tsd.org.
Sincerely,
Jane Harmon, MVHS Principal

Senior Yearbook Important Information and Deadlines
Dear Parents/Guardians of a 2022 MVHS Graduate, Congratulations!
Before you know it, your child will be finished with school: a memory that will be well preserved in next year’s yearbook. This important letter is intended to clarify any questions you or your graduate may have about important yearbook deadlines. ALL OF THESE THINGS CAN BE DONE ON THE MVHS WEBSITE.
1. Senior Portraits: Photos can be in color or black and white; however, the book will be all color. The photo should be submitted as a jpg that is at least 300 dpi. There are several ways to submit:
* Email your photo to: seniorphotos.mvhs@gmail.com. Please include the first and last name in the subject line. You will receive a confirmation from me that I received it (it may take a few days—response will not be instantaneous). If you do not, the email did not reach me.
* CD or Flash Drive: You may drop these off at the front desk. Please make sure that you include first and last name and a phone number. Email seniorphotos.mvhs@gmail.com to let us know you’ve dropped them off.
* Upload Directly to the Website: Through the MVHS homepage, a link directly to Jostens will be provided as the new 2021-22 school year begins. THIS IS THE BEST, EASIEST, MOST RELIABLE METHOD TO SUBMIT.
Students may choose whatever pose/photo they like best, but we will not accept any photos with nudity, weapons, or inappropriate words/phrases/hand gestures. Also, senior pictures will be printed vertically. A horizontal picture will not fit the space, and we will have to crop it. The deadline for senior portraits is Monday, November 1st, 2021. If we do not have a senior picture by this date, the student ID photo will be used! (NOTE: If you do not provide a photo, your student must have a picture taken by Lifetouch Photography—our professional photographer—or we will not have an ID card photo and the student will not be pictured in the yearbook. Pictures taken by the school secretary or campus monitor are not sent to the yearbook staff). Please contact Matt Hall at matt.hall@tsd.org if you have any concerns about this deadline or questions about your picture.
You are responsible for turning in your photo. Please remind your photographer of our November 1 deadline. It is HIGHLY recommended that you schedule a photo session as soon as possible to avoid any delays. Many photographers have “early bird” offers or senior portrait specials, so be sure to ask. If you have financial issues and are unable to purchase a professional picture package, please contact me so that we can work something out and get your student in the yearbook. I am happy to help!
2. Parent Baby Ads: Please keep in mind the option of a PDA/baby ad for your senior—this is a way to honor your child with a lasting reminder. You will be receiving a flyer in early September that will provide you with all the information to place these ads, but these ads will be run through The Yearbook Company at www.theyearbookcompany.com. If you want to pencil in the dates, here is what is happening: October 16th is the Early Bird Deadline (discounted prices), and November 13th is the official deadline.
3. Yearbook Orders: You will be able to purchase your 2021-22 yearbook at www.jostensyearbooks.com and place your order online-- $70 until winter break, and $75 after Jan. 1, 2022. You can also find all these links on the MVHS website.
4. Senior Quotes: are due Nov. 1. The link is available on the MVHS homepage. Please make sure you read the very thorough disclaimer—the MV Yearbook staff reserves the right to get rid of any quote for any of the reasons listed on the disclaimer.
Thank you for your cooperation with our deadlines. Please do not hesitate to email if you have any questions. Thanks for your support of the MVHS yearbook. Sincerely, Matt Hall, Adviser

ATHLETICS, ACTIVITIES AND CLUBS
Here is a look into this week's games!
Boys Soccer played their last game on Thursday, October 21. It was a tough season, but they played hard and received recognition from other teams of their improvement and determination!
Cross Country competed in Regionals on Thursday, October 21st coming in 5th place as a team and just barely missing state as a whole. They did however have two first place finishes giving us our two Mountain View state competitors: Jackson Shorten and Brooklyn Ewert! Jackson and Brooklyn will head to the Colorado State Championships next Saturday, October 30th in Colorado Springs!
Football still has 3 weeks left in their season. Varsity and JV both travel to Frederick High School with Varsity playing on Friday October 29th and JV on Monday November 1st. Freshman will play against Frederick here at MV on Thursday. October 28th for their last home game.
Gymnastics is not offered here, but we do have a Mountain View gymnast making her mark with Loveland High School! Recently, Junior Payton Rechkemmer has taken first on vault against Thornton and Roosevelt and 2nd all around. She took 4th on vault, 3rd on beam, and 6th all around at their League Meet this past Wednesday October 20th.
CALLING ALL JUNIOR & SENIOR ATHLETES!
Winter Sports Registration Is Open!
Winter sports athletes please remember to complete Athletic Registration!
Athletes that have not competed in sports yet this year will need to complete paperwork online through Planet HS, upload an up-to-date Physical Exam Form onto their PlanetHS account, and pay their Athletic Fees. Athletes who competed in Fall Sports simply need to pay winter sport Athletic Fees and make sure all information on Planet HS is accurate.

Celebrate Dia de Los Muertos/Day of the Dead
Hola students of Mountain View High School!
In order to celebrate Dia de Los Muertos/Day of the Dead, LUC Club has kindly taken the time to set up an ofrenda in the library!
Feel free to bring in photos of your lost loved ones, flowers, electrical candles, or anything else that you would like to add to the ofrenda. We only ask for NO food or drinks, we do not want our library to be infested with bugs.
If you happen to not have a photo of your lost loved one but still wish to partake in this event, LUC Club will be providing slips of paper for you to write the name of your deceased loved one so that you can still have the opportunity to participate!
Everyone is invited, so do not hesitate to be a part of this wonderful celebration!
Boys Basketball Tryouts on November 15-17!
9th Grade: 4:15-5:30 in small gym
10th Grade: 5:30-6:45 in small gym
11th and 12th Grade: 6:15-8:15 in large gym
Players trying out should plan on attending each day at their scheduled time.
All players must have Athletic Registration completed in order to try out. Visit the Athletics Website for links and information on Athletic Registration
https://mvhsathletics.org/main/otherad/contentID/53051833.
Players will know if they made the team at the conclusion of try-outs on Wednesday, November 17. There may be some movement of players between levels during the season, but the core players will remain the same. We will have four teams (D, C, JV, and Varsity). We are anticipating a large number of players trying out, so please make sure you are ready to try-out the first day. In other words, have your registration with the school complete, come into try-outs ready to compete, learn, and being in shape will help as well. This is a big commitment time wise and effort wise. We will practice during Thanksgiving break and Winter break. Typically, practices will be two hours in length and six days a week. We share gym space with the girls program, so there will be late practices (start at 6:15) for all levels.
Please contact Coach Tony Barnett (tony.barnett@tsd.org) for questions regarding tryouts or practices. Contact Athletic Secretary Julieta Marner (julieta.marner@tsd.org) for questions regarding Athletic Registration.
