New Lunchroom Procedure
This is just a reminder that we are starting with our new lunch procedures tomorrow. We are asking that you please eat with your class this week. This is the perfect time to show them where their new table will be and to put your students in a seating chart if needed. Please remind them of the café expectations and help reinforce them while they are in there. We all appreciate your help and support with this. The tables will be numbered tomorrow. If you have students that will sit at the overflow table, please have them sit to the side closest to the wall.
Cafe Expectations
-Please make sure that when you walk your kids into the cafeteria that you drop them off with Officer Dave or Amber Litzinger. Please do not just drop them off at the courtyard doors.
Student Expectations:
- Always walk – no running.
- Level 1 voice or Level 0 voice during quiet time
- Get sporks, ketchup, napkins, etc before you sit down. Lunch monitors will not be getting this for the students and students will not be allowed to get up to get any items.
- There will be no more water cups offered after students sit down. Students must get a drink from the lunch line or bring a water bottle

Spotlight on SIOP Strategies
EXPLICITLY TEACH NEW VOCABULARY.
In each content area, take time to teach vocabulary and check for understanding. Introduce the word, define it, use it in sentences, and provide visuals. Then allow students to practice using it and illustrate it. Sentence stems come in handy for teaching vocabulary!
Magic Word- Tony Vincent
Encourage brainstorming by playing “Magic Word.” Before having small groups brainstorm a list of words or phrases, write one word or phrase on a piece of paper. Fold it up and put it in your pocket or place it somewhere special (like in a hat). Groups work to write down as many words or phrases as possible. After time is up, the class discusses their brainstorms. Finally, reveal the magic word. Offer a reward for the groups that have the magic word written on their lists.
Hot Tip: Have groups record their ideas into a Google Form and submit when the timer goes off. That way students don’t try to cheat by adding to their list. You can make a copy of my Magic Word template for Google Forms by going to tonyv.me/magicword. The form has a passcode so a group cannot start early.
