What is Adaptation?
Adaptation is a physical feature or behavior thats helps an animal survive in a habitat. A habitat is a place where an animal lives. Characteristic features of adaptation includes:
- How an animal gets food
- Protects itself from predators
- How it moves
- How it reproduces
Did you know?
A polar bear has white fur to blend into the ice and snow. This characteristic is called camouflage. Camouflage is a method of adaptation that animals used to blend into the environment to hide from predators. The polar bear also uses its thick fur to keep warm in frigid temperatures.
Camouflage vs. Mimcry
Camouflage
Structural adaptation that enables animals to blend with their surroudings; allows a species to avoid detection by predators
Mimicry
Structural adaptation that enables animals to mimic another dangerous animal or objects that predators would not eat.
