Note from our principal, Mrs. Dianne Stokes

For Remote Students:

- June 3 - EOG Math, grades 6 - 8
- June 4 - EOG Science, only grade 8
WE NEED VOLUNTEERS FROM OUR COMMUNITY FOR END OF THE YEAR TESTING! Call WCMS if you are available from 8 am - 1 pm on any of these dates to help out!
Summer School: Families, the last day for students is June 9, 2021. As the end of the year approaches, we want our scholars to be comfortable returning to school in the Fall at their grade level. Some scholars will be required to attend summer school, but all are welcome to attend an exciting, new opportunity that will be available to all Washington County Middle School students, at no cost to you, at the end of the month change this date when dates are known.
Our staff has been looking at the current research on what is termed the “summer loss in learning” and the findings are pretty convincing. Research indicates the following:
- All young people experience learning losses when they do not engage in educational activities during the summer.
- On average, students lose approximately 2.6 months of grade-level equivalency in mathematical computation skills over the summer months.
- Some students can lose about 2 months of reading achievement.
- Washington County Schools' students attend school for 180 days.

Celebrating Our Staff
Staff of the Month
Congratulations and thank you for your continued support to our students, staff, and faculty!
Ms. Johnson: March 2021
- Ms. Johnson: Number Girl! Tech Wiz! Patient, Kind, and growing gracefully in leadership here at WCMS. Ms. Johnson is the GOAT for every staff member. A one of a kind GENIUS........ who is so modest about her dynamics.
- Johnson - She did the work to organize and complete the school development plan.
- Ms. Johnson-She works very hard always and helps all who ask! She has worked hard all year on our school improvement plan and done an excellent job getting everyone working on it and submitting it. Excellent teacher and a wonderful friend!
- Mrs. Johnson is always helpful.
Mrs. James: February 2021
- I nominate Ms. James for being a thoughtful teacher.
- W. James has been weathering the storm even before the passing of our colleague. She has been a trooper; modeling strength in a time of despair and unknowing. Mrs. James still manages to uplift others while herself needs uplifting.
- Mrs. James because she is friendly.
- The way Mrs. James engages her students is innovative and flexible!
- Mrs. James because she is reminding me to do my missing work and answering my questions when I'm confused about what to do
- Mrs. James - because she is nice, and also a good teacher.
