Educator Effectiveness
This group of outstanding educators met recently at the Central Office to work on the CCS educator effectiveness plan. Educator Effectiveness promotes and supports the effective preparation, development, and improvement of Alabama's teachers and instructional leaders to insure that through effective professional practice, all students graduate college and/or career ready.
Eating Dessert is Hard Work, But Somebody Has To Do It!
Students in Family and Consumer Science and Food classes had the task of making and eating this luscious dessert. Some subject areas are tough for students. Not sure this was one of them!
Math Students Explore "Hidden Figures"
CHS Math Team, Ap Stats, and AP Calculus classes had the opportunity for a fantastic field trip last week. They attended a screening of Hidden Figures. This movie is based on a true story of a team of African-American women who provided NASA with important mathematical data needed to launch the program's first successful space missions.
The Great Unknown
CMS students in Mrs. Shelton's class were asked to determine as much as they could about an unknown substance based on the solubility test. Students worked with known substances, as well, to gain information about how those substances responded to the solubility test. They were able to compare and contrast their results to try to determine the identity of the unknown substance.
Chicken Soup for the EES Soul?
We've all heard of "Chicken Soup for the Soul", "Chicken Soup for the Parent's Soul", "Chicken Soup for the Fisherman's Soul" and every "Chicken Soup" in between. Well, chicken soup at EES is not a published work but it sure is yummy! Our Child Nutrition program staff treated EES students to delicious chicken noodle soup on one of the coldest days of the year. East beasts were certainly feeling warmed up!
We've Got Skills - Math Skills
5th grade classes at EES are on a mission to take math success to the highest level. With teamwork and focus they are on their way.
Quick Write/Quick Draw
A quick write or quick draw is exactly that, a brief written or drawn response to a question or probe. Students are given a short time to explain or comment on an assigned topic. This strategy can be used as either a review or synthesis of learned materials or as preparation for new content. Students in Mrs. Speciale's class are shown here using the quick write/quick draw strategy to prepare for learning about the Underground Railroad.
Physical Education Incorporates Technology
WES physical education has added a technology component that is making instruction more effective. P.E. coaches recently added a digital mixer and bluetooth microphones for their sound system. The mixer can be controlled through an app on an iPad. Teachers can now be totally mobile while adjusting their voice and music volume with the iPad. No longer do they have to return to the P.E. office to turn microphones or music on and off or adjust the volume. This allows for maximum efficiency and maximum use of instructional time.
Understanding Garden to Table
The outdoor classroom at West has yielded so many learning opportunities for our students. From the construction of planting beds, to the planting of seeds and plants, to care and harvest, to consumption, our students have had the full experience from garden to table. Pictured here, Mrs. Caretti's students create seed strips and do a little taste testing of their produce.
Do Flamingos Hibernate?
You probably didn't think flamingos hibernated. Well, they don't unless they are in Mrs. Ponder's Flamingo class at CCPS. All dressed up in their PJs, Mrs. Ponder's students were prepared to hibernate last Friday after their study of hibernating and migrating animals.
Officer Dave Provides Listening Ears and Genuine Support
Our school resource officer, Officer Dave, is an important part of our campus activities. One of our students' favorite activities is to get the opportunity to read to Officer Dave. Officer Dave listens and supports our students in their learning and development.
