Ott's Outlook
June 2022
I want to congratulate everyone on a successful year. The early part of this year was filled with many challenges to include two variants of COVID (Delta and Omicron), staff working all-hands-on-deck filling classrooms and an unsuccessful November bond election - those are just to name a few. Although we began the year with such challenges, we stand today with a sense of normalcy, a decisively successful bond election, INCREDIBLE STAAR scores and student growth district-wide (just came in) and many other celebrations that wrapped up the school year across the district.
The TISD community did more than just “hold it together through challenging times”, we led, persevered and landed on success. In fact, this may be one of our most successful years in recent times. I cannot begin to tell you how proud I am of the amazing accomplishments of our students and staff and how grateful I am to the families and community who provided constant support along the way.
As we enter the summer months, the Senior Leadership Team is working to align our goals and targets for the upcoming year so that we can continue the momentum that drives us all to raise expectations and maximize potential. We are also outlining our bond plans. Specific actions that are currently in-progress include:
Analyzing student growth and academic performance to determine necessary instructional adjustments and supports for the coming year
Preparing an annual budget that prioritizes student needs and staff compensation.
Hiring architectural services for bond projects
Issuance of bond sales (We will have multiple bond sales over the next few years in order to minimize tax impact by taking advantage of additional future growth to the taxbase. This is the most sensitive approach to taxpayers)
Create a Bond 2022 estimated timeline for all projects as architects and construction managers are assigned
Get started on projects that do not require architectural services
Temple ISD will provide updates on each of these actions as plans finalized in the coming weeks/months. As an aside, I want to be clear that the top bond priority for Temple ISD will be installing the three secured entrances at our remaining elementary schools. As soon as architects are hired this will be job one; and has always been the case.
Thank you for your uncompromising support. We will be hard at work this summer, doing all we can to make sure we meet/exceed your expectations!
