Marshall County Drought Hard on Area Farmers
Marshall County Agriculture has experienced another challenging year. The dry conditions and extreme heat at times has had an impact on area crops. The lack of adequate moisture is the main factor that determined yield has been lacking in many local fields. Marshall County has many acres of well drained soils that are more impacted due to limited soil water holding. Corn and soybean fields have shut down early limiting the size and weight of seeds key for yield and grain quality. Due to limited forage growth, beef herds were fed hay this summer and hay for winter is limited. We need to appreciate our farmers. They take on the risk of growing our food, while not controlling the weather.
