Voice Thread PowerPoint

Ideas for Use:

  • Students read and practice for fluency; can comment on other students' voice comment for a praise and a polish
  • Students can summarize a part of a text or a chapter of a text and other students may use sentence starters to comment on their summary
  • Students can be presented with a solution and record different story problems to match the solution
  • Students can record a word problem and have other students comment on the answers
  • Students can begin a writing prompt and then other students can continue the story

See below for some Voice Threads I've already created:

Grade Level Planning Days...

If you have additional questions about SLOs, Bird University, or MAP data- let us know!

Guided Math in Primary

Thanks to Michele for sharing this awesome blog on Guided Math.

There are a lot of great and meaningful ideas for organizing centers and rotations.

Updated Social Studies Information

  • Second Grade
  • We will also be holding a focus group for grade two teachers on 11/22 from 4-6 at the White Marsh Public library. The time will discuss the first unit and dive into the second unit. This group is limited to 30. Please encourage a teacher from your third grade team to sign up for this in the PD catalogue. We will also be asking teachers to bring work samples from the first unit test.

BCPS Math Modules (it's the Digital Learning University, but for Math)

Look at the document below. You take 5 of these math modules (workshops) and complete a reflection for each and you can earn 1 MSDE credit. So basically it is the Bird University, but from the Math Office.

Math Module University

ELA Refreshers and Reminders

Shared Learning Experience:
  • 20-30 minutes (depending on what is built into the curriculum)

Small Groups:

  • guided reading in Grades 1-3 for students not reading on grade level according to Running Records and/or MAP scores
  • {students in grades 4-5 that still struggle with how to read/fluency can work on foundation skills in small group}
  • small group pathways for students who are reading on grade level according to Running Record data and MAP scores

Meaningful Independent Work

  • Applied Learning and Independent Practice
  • Word Work or Work on Writing Centers
  • Reading to Self
  • Research based project
  • Genius Hour
  • Slam Dunk PPT from the Library Office
  • Technology Centers: iReady, Discovery Boards, Tumble Books, PebbleGo, World Book Kids
  • See Reading Specialists and STAT for additional ideas

Culminating Events and Periodic Assessments

  • Please see me if you have questions as you get closer to the culminating event and the end of your unit. Rubrics have changed and the periodic assessment should be given before the start to the new unit!

Dreambox and iReady

Dreambox should be used between 45-60 minutes per week at all grade levels. That should come to 5-8 completed lessons a week.

iReady should be used 45 minutes a week per students in grades 1-3.

If you have questions with reports and tracking students, please let me know!
