Message from Administration
It is hard to believe that October is already here! We continue to be impressed with your children! On Morning Announcements, we highlight examples we see of students who are living out the Bobcat Vision. We also highlight classes that have perfect attendance from the previous day and it's a big deal! Students love to hear their classes called and we love to call LOTS of classes. We monitor attendance as a school as well as with individual students because we know the importance of regular school attendance and its impact on academic achievement. This month, our overall school attendance was 96.8% which is excellent! Our goal is to be above 96% each month. It is important that you send in a note when your child returns from an absence in order to code it as an excused absence. Way to get off to a great start! The graphic below shows the negative impact of absenteeism on achievement. Thank you for helping support our attendance and having your child at school when he/she is healthy!
Author Visit
Our K-2 students were treated to an amazing Author Visit yesterday from Kwame Alexander. Hopefully, your child showed you his/her signed copy of his book. He was a dynamic, energetic speaker and he had the whole crowd reading along with him! He commented on how well behaved, welcoming and well prepared our students were! Hopefully you saw some of the pictures on Twitter or the news coverage on WDVM. It was a great day! Check out a few pictures below.
Conferences
Volunteers: We Need You!
There is an option on the form to be a Room Parent. Our Room Parents are important partners with our teachers! We need one for each classroom. As a Room Parent, you can do many things for your child's teacher and classroom, but the following are the things we ask all Room Parents to do:
Create a distribution list of e-mails from families
Plan the Fall Party (October) and the Valentine Party (February)
Keep lines of communication open between you and the classroom teacher.
Here are some additional things that you can do if you would like, but they are not expected!
Support school events throughout the year by communicating event details and soliciting volunteers when needed.
Forward on school news to families on occasion.
Communicate with families when there are supply needs throughout the school year (paper towels, tissues, hand sanitizer, etc).
Communicate with families at appropriate times regarding a class gift for the teacher in the event they want to contribute
There will be an additional meeting, at a later date, for all Room Parents to provide assistance with planning the Fall Party and answer any questions you may have.
