Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 29th November 2019
To Infinity and Beyond
For the last two weeks in EYFS, our topic chosen by the children was Space! We have had lots of fun building our own space station and rocket in our role-play areas and have produced some amazing themed work: junk modelling and construction rockets; alien, planet and astronaut labelled pictures; marble rolling in paint planets; space scene backdrops; moonscapes using clay; and super space English and Maths!!
Our topic for the next two weeks will be knights, princesses and castles so if you have any themed props or accessories at home... anything would be very gratefully received.
Ambassador Awards
Well done to all our winners!
Places of Peace and friendship
Peace and Friendship in school and in the Cathedral
Peace
"We can find peace in the chapel because we pray to God." Alanya and Mabel
"We find peace in the library because we can read to ourselves." Lexi and Lilly-May
"We find peace in the chapel because we can have a quiet time." Ariana
"I find peace in the reading corner, you can read a book and be on your own." Freddie
"We find peace in school when we are relaxing." Ellie-Rose
Friendship
"We find friendship outside in the playground." Semas
"We find friends at the buddy bench." Imogen
"We find friendship in the dinner hall because we have friends to talk to."
"I find friendship in class because there are lots of friends around me." Bethany
After thinking about peace and friendship in school, we visited the Cathedral to find places where we find peace. The children thought the crypt was a quiet place where you could find peace and we visited some of the side chapels where we had quiet reflection time. They thought about the way candles can be lit to help people think about loved ones and find peace in their hearts.
The children thought that the Cathedral was full of friendship, particularly where the congregation meet and also where the Cathedral serves drinks so that people can get to know one another while having a cup of tea.
Reading Stars
We hope you all enjoy reading with your children. Please remember it’s really important to continue to write in the reading record when you’ve shared a book so that everyone can become a Reading Star. We already have lots of Stars, but it would be great to have even more! Don’t forget if you have any difficulty with any of the Reading Star challenges, for example taking or printing a photo, please talk to your class teacher.

Thank you to all who have already responded to our survey. The link is still active so if you have not yet managed to complete the questionnaire, could we ask you to find five minutes to do so over the weekend. Many thanks!

Message from the Friends
School Discos: What a great night we had last Friday at the school discos! The children looked like they all had an amazing time. In total we raised £256 which is a fantastic amount so thank you all for coming. We'd also like to thank the wonderful helpers.
Cathedral Christmas Fair: The Friends also had a successful time at the Ripon Cathedral Christmas Fair. They sold out of the hyacinths by 2.30pm! And they raised £315. Well done to all who potted the hyacinths or who helped sell them.
School Christmas Fair: Coming up next we have our Christmas fair. Father Christmas is ready to meet all the children and give them a present. We had a great sort out of the tombola and raffle prizes, thanks for all the generous donations. If you have anything you wish to donate please bring it into the office as soon as you can. We still have lots of jars available if you are able to fill them with sweets or toys. Please see Mrs Bingham at the office for a jar.
Please can we have all raffle/tombola/soft toys/jolly jars in by TUESDAY 3rd DECEMBER. We need to get them all sorted ready for the fair on Thursday. Thank you.
Raffle tickets went home in book bags earlier this week. They are £1 each. Amazing prizes to be won. 1st prize: £100, 2nd Prize £50 and lots of tickets to local attractions. The raffle will be drawn during our Christmas fair.
If anyone is available to help at the school fair please get in touch.
Have a great weekend!
Community Events
Community Cooking!
One of our parents, Sarita of Realitea, along with several other local cafe and restaurant owners, is involved in an exciting new project. They have started free cookery classes demonstrating how to cook meals on a budget from scratch. The class will run on a Monday afternoon fortnightly from 3.45pm in Holy Trinity Church Crypt, with the next session on Monday 2nd December. Each session will demonstrate a starter, main course and a dessert, with the emphasis on providing delicious, nutritious, healthy meals whilst working within a budget. You will even be given a bag of ingredients and a recipe card for the three dishes!
