The Ritenour Review
2016 - 2017 Third Grade Weekly News
Reading: We are continuing to organize our notes from our reading. The note taking is soaring! We are now going back and making sure we can understand those notes and how we can use those to continue our research and learning journey.
Math: We worked a lot with sharing in number problems. We looked at money this week and talked a lot about sharing money and how we can use the different denominations to help us share equally. We also spent some time reviewing skills learned throughout the year.
Language: We continued to work on pronoun usage. We are getting better with object and subject pronouns - and then we added in possession!
Writing: We are closing out our persuasive speech unit. Several classmates are finished and have typed their speeches and we will hear those this coming week. A few friends are still working on their rough draft and will complete those speeches this week. Persuasive speech writing can be tricky. We want our students to find a minimum of three reasons to support their topic - and a minimum of three facts to support those reasons. In third grade land, this can look very repetitive, so we are working on being clear and strong with our words.
Language Arts: We will test on informational reading this week. I will be looking for skills on synthesizing information and how well they use multiple texts to support answers.
Math: Unit 8: We will take our culminating assessment this Tuesday. I will be looking for clarification on the topics we've discussed in unit 8 and also any skills that need to be retaught in the remaining three weeks of school - three weeks, yall! I need more time!
Word Study: We will have spelling groups again this week. We will test on Friday. We held off on testing last week. NWEA took a lot of time and I did not feel like I taught the sorts well enough to test. We will work with the same sorts this week.
Science: Simple Machines and Rube Goldberg! We are having a lot of fun with this unit!
NWEA: We will finish up the math session and take Reading this week.
