TEKS Review Process
The Process and Social Studies Review
TEKS Review Process
The State Board of Education (SBOE) has legislative authority to adopt the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for each subject of the required curriculum. In June 2017, the SBOE approved a process that will be used to streamline the social studies TEKS and other content areas after that. The initial step of the TEKS Review Process is to examen the scope of time it takes to teach each grade level's content. Once that the scope is determined, then the decision will be made to either Streamline the TEKS for that content area or to do a full or partial revision. Educational Service Centers (ESC) will partake in this process by collecting feedback throughout the process from teachers in their region. We are looking at doing this via survey and grade level groups. We would truly appreciate your input on this. TEA is also collecting feedback on their website for Elementary and Secondary. Applications are currently being accepted to serve on the Social Studies TEKS Streamlining Work Groups. Throughout this process the work groups, SBOE members, and 9 content advisors will meet face to face approximately four times to review the work and feedback and determine direction needed.
