THE RISE OF ROBERTS OCTOBER 24-28
THE AVIATOR
Do you remember when you first got on stage?
“On the evening of June 29, 1976, after rehearsing in front of friends for weeks, a twenty-two year-old Jerry Seinfeld walked up onstage at the Catch a Rising Star comedy club in New York City to give his first public performance as a stand-up comic. Seinfeld took the microphone, looked into the audience, and froze. When he finally found his voice, all he could remember were the topics he had prepared to talk about. He rattled them off without pausing and then hurried offstage. The entire performance lasted about ninety seconds. As Seinfeld later recounted his first moments in the spotlight, ‘I couldn’t even speak ... I was so paralyzed by total fear.’”
Then, fast-forward a dozen years later to his pilot for Seinfeld and picture the $2.7 billon dollars his sitcom made in reruns alone. Robert teachers, do you remember last year when we first got on stage with small group instruction? Our biggest obstacle is sometimes our fear of failure. Studies consistently show that when we look back on our lives the most common regrets are not the risks we took, but the ones we didn’t. Today, I want to take a moment to celebrate you for your willingness to harness the power of small group instruction. I have worked in this business of education for a long time, and I can honestly say with great ease, I have never worked with such a dedicated and passionate group of teachers in my career. So today, Roberts, please know your path to greatness started when you decided to be coached, be mentored, be risk takers, and not allow negative thoughts to sabotage your potential. Thank you for allowing me to come to work each day to the best group of teachers who put kids first.
This week I will be traveling with Rebecca and Adriana to a work conference. I hate to be off campus, because I feel being present, supportive, and visible is my number one role. I will be just a phone call away.
