Wilson Focus Facts October/November
Lion Pride News for our FOCUS Families!
Fall is in the air! Mornings are getting cooler. It's time to get out the jackets and find our fall and winter clothes, so we are ready as the temperature changes.
We have had a great start to our first quarter of school and happy that we are having a healthy beginning to the school year. This helps with attendance so our students are at school ready for LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION and LEARNING!
Enrichment classes are in full swing! Our students are excited at the end of their day to transition to these highly engaging fun and learning activities. Walking Club, gardening, needlepoint, crafts, Taekwondo, Soccer, Minecraft, Robotics, Lego building, Yearbook, Cheerleading, are just a few of the many classes students have as choices.

CALL THE SCHOOL TO REPORT ABSENCES
If your student will be absent for ANY reason, please call the school at (531) 299-2260. We not only want to verify absences, but also the SAFETY of your child. If you need a Spanish translator to report absences, please contact Josefina Sanchez at (531) 299-1652 and she can relay the message.
Our attendance goal for each student is to miss no more than 9 days in a school year. It is important to receive a phone call from parents and/or guardians when a child is absent. When absences are repeatedly not reported they will be marked unexcused and a home visit may occur. Communication between home and school is the goal. Please contact the principal and/or counselor if there are situations that are seriously effecting your child's attendance.
If your child is absent they will make up the work when they return. If they are absent for more than 2 days in a row, we can have work available for pick up at the school at your request.
Please see the following Omaha Public Schools website link for the attendance policy.
Craft Corner is led by 5th grade teacher, Mrs. Matz. Students are working on making designs using Perler beads. What are Perler Beads you may ask? They are plastic fusible beads made from a food-grade plastic called low-density polyethylene. They are safe and do not contain any harmful chemicals. The beads are arranged on pegboards to form patterns and then fused together with heat from a clothes iron. Our crafty kids are creating many fun designs.
Be A Kid Hero - Dream Builders
The Kid Hero-Dream Builder group is new to the Enrichment program this year. Tyrome Williams leads this group and has students excitedly engaged in STEAM activities. (Science-Technology-Engineering-Arts-Math) Activities have included building and launching rockets, remote control cars, balloon animals, and making smoothies using a blender powered by a bicycle. Every week we wonder what fun they will have next!
The Girl Scout group has been meeting every Tuesday and participating in leadership activities. Leader, Stephanie Stickels guides the group, focusing on foundational skills. The girls learn the Girl Scout promise to help people at all times. Girls are learning survival skills, archery skills, and in the upcoming weeks will be exploring the wonderful world of bugs!
