The Olympics can be traced back to 776 B.C. The Olympics were dedicated to the Greek Zeus. Pelops was the founder of the Olympics. It was a festival to honor Zeus.

The Olympics were usually held between August 6 - September 19. It was a 1 day event until 684 B.C. Which after that it was a 5 day event.
What Kinds Of Events Were In The Ancient Olympics?
The Ancient Olympics included running, long jump, shot put, javelin, boxing, pankration and equestrian events ( horses). Marathon was not an event

Modern Olympics
The Olympics were stopped by Emperor Theodosius but it 1896 it restarted. The first modern Olympics were in 1896 in Athens, Greece. The Olympics were held every 4 years. In 1894 Pierre de Coubertin had the idea about 79 delegates from 9 countries went into the Olympics. The first successful Olympics were in Paris 1924
