As a regional STEM hub, we will strive to continuously align PreK-20 STEM learning pathways and prepare students for the dynamics of higher education and the ever-evolving workforce. We seek to facilitate cross-sector stakeholder engagement and collectively plan to create more aligned pathways and ensure that students in Region 19 are prepared for post-secondary success.

Texas Resource Review
TEA and Region 19 Education Service Center are- beginning the work on a science quality rubric for the Texas Resource Review (TRR). Quality rubrics are used to evaluate the extent to which specific instructional materials cover content standards and incorporate strong, research-based instructional concepts and educator supports.
If you would like to participate in this program, please read the following information below:
Individuals selected to participate will oversee the development of a quality rubric used to evaluate the quality of science programs. Mileage and substitutes can be reimbursed. Lunch will be provided.
To be considered for the science expert role, individuals must have:
• experience teaching science,
• experience coaching science teachers,
• experience developing science curriculum, and
• additional certification, such as bilingual, special education, etc. (preferred).
• the ability to attend either face to face or virtually on August 26, 2021

Joseph Sapien
Joseph Sapien - STTE Executive Director and Entrepreneur
During his ten years at Workforce, Sapien influenced over 50K youth to pursue viable career paths in STEAM, and entrepreneurship through project-based programs and initiatives. Sapien has over 15 years of experience launching high impact marketing and fund development campaigns generating over 2.7 million in revenue. In 2009 Sapien created the first in Texas Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Business Challenge which encouraged high school students to start businesses. The STEM Challenge was recognized in 2014 by the Texas Workforce Commission by winning the Industry Sector Outreach Award. Since 2015, Sapien has helped cultivate and increase the robotics market by increasing teachers' capacity and providing teams with the necessary resources allowing them to compete at national and global levels. Joseph has since created the first-ever Augmented Reality (AR) entrepreneurship lean business model canvas and is currently in the design process to develop the first-in-the-world AR Science Fair.
Mike Pitcher
His current endeavors are focused around redesigning the K to I pipeline (Kinder to Industry) to streamline the process for students and teachers in an engaging, motivating and yes fun ways while still achieving amazing student STEM learning outcomes. The Tech-E program he oversees is quickly gaining national recognition as a new model for technology integration and technical career development programs between K-12 and Higher Ed.
Olen Anderson
Experience Externships provide students with 5 day deep dives into industry allowing them to explore different career paths. Unlike traditional internships students can experience together with their peers and learn from a wide range of experts such as Cisco, Accenture, and Delta Airlines. Our online model makes it accessible and affordable and promotes cross cultural learning with the opportunity to collaborate with students from across the US and even the world. With a focus on STEM careers ranging from Cybersecurity, Computer Science and Video Game Development we work hand in hand with our industry partners to help close the talent and diversity gap from education to industry.
Jose Gomez
Joe Gomez is the recipient of UTEP’s Distinguished Alumnus 2020. He is employed by Jordan Foster Construction as the Director of Business Development and Community Affairs. Joe is also a recipient of the Conquistador Award given by the City of El Paso.
