TEAM: Together Everyone Achieves More
Principal Young's News:
The Fun Run was amazing! Congratulations to all of our students who participated in last Friday's running event. Great job setting daily goals and supporting our school's biggest fundraising event of the year! As of last Friday, we had exceeded our goal of $50,000! Fantastic work everyone and thank you to all of the PTA volunteers as well as Ashley Andrews, our PTA Fun Run Chairperson!
Warmly,
Principal Young
What's Happening?:
Blocking Neighbors' Driveways:
Please respect our Vista neighbors by not parking in or blocking their driveways. We have received several complaints from the neighbors. This is dangerous if there is an emergency and one of our neighbors was late to work last week. Thank you for respecting our neighbors and their property.
FREE Online Tutoring for Students:
Free online homework help is available for all California students! Go to:
https://www.library.ca.gov/services/to-libraries/online-tutoring/
Reminders:
Aeries Contacts:
Please make sure your student's Aeries Contacts are updated with correct phone numbers. In any emergency or when your child is sick, we need to be able to contact someone.
School-wide Intervention:
This year, all Kindergarten through 6th grade students will be supported through a school-wide intervention program called Response to Intervention (RtI). All students have been given initial assessments to see where they are in specific standards. In order for students to have success with this school-wide approach, it requires a collective effort, utilizing the specialized training and unique talents from all of our staff members. This new program will be Monday through Thursday for a minimum of 30 minutes per day. Some students will have an opportunity to travel to a different classroom during this time, in order to be supported in different English Language Arts standards. We are so excited to be able to give our students what they need and to have the opportunity to focus in on deeper learning as well provide extension learning.
PTA Art Reflections:
CALLING ALL VISTA ARTISTS!
Vista PTA is looking for Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, and Visual Arts submissions for the 2022-2023 National PTA Reflections Program. The Reflections Art Program has been bringing the arts to life for more than 10 million students since 1969.
This year's theme is "Show Your Voice!". The Vista entry deadline is October 7th.
Please see the attached PDF packet or visit the Vista PTA Reflections page for rules, submission details and entry forms. Please contact Vista Reflections Chairperson, Shannan Keenan, at vistareflections@gmail.com with any questions.

Fall Makeup Picture Day - Coming Soon:
What if I missed picture day?
A makeup opportunity is scheduled for Friday, October 7th for those who missed picture day or for those who are not satisfied with their portrait and want to try again.
For additional questions, you may contact customercare@cornerstone.photo or (805) 529-1635.
Medicine at School:
Students are not allowed to have any medication on campus, without going through the Health Office and having a physician fill out the proper form. Medicines include cough drops, allergy/sinus medicine, Tums, and Tylenol. Please call the school office if you have questions regarding this matter.
Last Week of September Character Trait Focus - "Growth Mindset"
Our students have done a terrific job this month focusing on their growth mindset.
Birthday Treats:
If your child has a birthday and you would like to provide goody bags for the entire class, please remember NOT to send store bought treats or homemade food items. Due to allergies and restricted diets, we are not allowing any food or treats. You can always send a goody bag with school supplies such as pencils, coloring sheets, stickers, etc.
*If teachers teach a cooking, math or science lesson using food, they will email you the ingredients to get permission that your student can participate in the activity.
Toys at School:
Toys from home are not allowed at school as they can be lost, stolen, or broken. Please remind your child of this school rule.
Appropriate Shoes at School:
Make sure your student wears appropriate shoes to school. Students need to wear shoes that are safe for running, jumping, kicking balls and playing in the woodchip area of the playground structures. All Kindergarten through 6th grade students will begin the District PE program during the next two weeks of school. Please do not send your child in sandals, high heels or open-toed shoes.
Water Bottles and High Temperatures:
It is recommended for all students to bring their water bottle to school. Please put sunscreen on your child before school starts.
Lost and Found:
We have started a collection of students' Lost & Found items. All lost items can be found on the cart outside of the front of the school. Please label your child's water bottle, lunch bag, jackets, sweaters and sweatshirts.
Daily Attendance:
Please call the school office at (805) 520-6750 to report your child's absence. Parents and guardians have up to 5 days to report their student's absence, otherwise, the absence becomes a truancy/unexcused absence.
Reminder of Dogs on School Grounds, on Campus or Outside of Gates:
Please do not bring your dog on school grounds, or near the gates during ingress and egress. Some of our students and parents are afraid of dogs and there could be incidents where dogs act differently around large crowds and noises. For the safety and well-being of our students, staff and parent community, thank you for following this rule.
School Start Time and Gates:
Our gates open at 7:40 a.m. each day.
Students eating breakfast can enter the front gate of the school starting at 7:35 a.m.
The first bell rings at 7:55 a.m. Teachers and students should be at their classroom line by the 7:55 a.m. bell.
The tardy bell rings at 8:00 a.m. If students enter the gates after 8:00 a.m., they will be considered tardy.
*Starting these healthy life habits of being on time, sets your student up for success.
