August & September 2019
By the Numbers:
- 520 student devices checked out and distributed
- 8 wireless hot spots checked out and distributed
- 366 students assisted with technology (August 19-September 26)
- 148 teachers assisted with technology (August 19-September 26)
- 2941 books checked out
- Mr. Munn's homeroom checked out the most books of any homeroom (154 books)
- Jonah Hooks (Munn's homeroom) checked out the most books of any student (22 books)
- 88 classes in the library
- 6 student designed 3D prints
- 105 new books added to the library
Highlights
Communicating with Authors
Cameron, 8th grade student, loves Jordan Sonnenblick's books. Cameron created a message which Ms. Sturdivant tweeted. A day later, Cameron got a personalize response from his favorite author!
New Books
In September, we headed to Barnes & Noble to buy new books for the library. We were able to buy 105 new books using money from Boxtops for Education.
NCVPS
Small groups of 8th grade students are in the library during 3rd and 5th blocks to take online courses for high school credit.

Library Time Before School
The library is open to all students before school each day. Students should stop by the office for a pass before coming over. This month, we have been averaging 40 students each morning.
Games with Friends
This group plays UNO almost every morning.
Students enjoy playing computer games before school.

Winner Books
At any given time, there are approximately 50 books marked as "Winner" books in the library. Whenever a student checks out a Winner book, s/he get to choose a prize from the prize box.
Digital Citizenship Lessons
Students in Ms. Ayers' and Ms. Drakeford's ELA classes and in Ms. Phelps', Ms. Capps, and Ms. Balchek's math classes came to the library in September for their first digital citizenship lesson. This month, we focused on how to find balance in your digital life. 6th and 7th grade students will return to the library several more times this year for other digital citizenship lessons.
Our Library
The OMS library is open from 7:05-3:30 daily. Ms. Tremble and Ms. Sturdivant are excited to help students find books, 3D print, and use their technology. Maker Club meets after school on Mondays in the library beginning October 14 (3:15-4:00). Battle of the Books meets on Wednesday afternoons beginning October 9 (3:15-4:15). Gravity Games will meet on Wednesday after winter break. Listen to announcements for start date.
