Below is some very important information about our Stanwood Middle School Yearbook. Mr. Wall and the Yearbook Staff are working hard to make sure all students are in the Yearbook and need everyone's help to make this happen. Please make sure your student has this information, we've given it to them in a variety of ways, but want to make sure you are in the information loop as well. Thank you for your help!
Make sure your student gets in the SMS yearbook!
We are changing the way we do our yearbook pictures this year. Students are able to take a selfie and use it for their picture. We still hope to have school pictures later in the year, which can be used for their Yearbook picture, but this is a fun way for us embrace Distance Learning.
Please see more information below:
• Go to https://high5.id/p/qpq4m to take your picture. Make sure you have your student's ID number handy.
• You or your student will take their selfie portrait on your phone or computer webcam and upload.
• Photos are sent directly to our system and are used to create yearbook portraits and school IDs. This entire three-step process only takes a few seconds. If your photo is rejected for quality issues, you may be asked to retake and submit.
The deadline to receive all student portraits is Friday, December 18th.
Don’t forget to order this year’s historic yearbook before we run out! Your student will not want to miss out on all of the stories that are making this year so unique.
Buy today [online through the Stanwood Middle School website] for only $25.
Google Meets & Emails
It is important that students not go to any meets that aren't organized by a teacher, nor should they send messages to people unless it is for a class.
We recognize that students want to connect with each other, which is why we have clubs and teacher office hours.
All of the club information is shared daily with students on the morning announcements and can be seen below in this Family Message.
Thank you and have a great weekend!

A message from our Counselor Mrs. Fox!
Healthy Coping Strategies
Hello Everyone! In our Wednesday Class Meetings this week, we talked about healthy coping strategies — things we can do when we’re having a hard time, or things to do each day simply to stay feeling positive and healthy.
Specifically, I asked students to choose three from the list below that work well for them. I asked students to write these three down and post somewhere they will see each day as a reminder to practice. It is easy to forget to practice these when we’re feeling down or stressed — and that is, of course, when we need them the most. All students have access to this PDF worksheet in their Class Of Google Classroom.
I encourage you to talk with your child about their preferred coping strategies, and to remind them to practice these when they’re having a hard time.
Please let me know if your student or family needs some extra support with school or life.
We are here to help!
Kara Fox

SPIRIT WEEK
This week our Leadership Class is organizing a spirit week for all students. See the slide below, created by ASB President Hayden Pappas, explaining all the details. We encourage students to dress up, turn on their cameras during meets to show off their spirit and email Mr. Wall and Ms. Christmas their outfits for possible inclusion in the yearbook and morning announcements.
OPEN MEET: ELF HELP MONDAY - THURSDAY 9-10 A.M.
This week the office is having an open hour Monday-Thursday to help students get on track, advice for routines and best practices, and help for specific academics as we can. Students can log on to the meet using the code: ELF HELP
THE SPARTAN GOAL
We are encouraging all students to work toward having no missing work headed into the break--please encourage your student to work three hours a day outside of their google meets, attend teacher office hours as needed, and reach out for help via email. Please let our office know what help your student needs.

In case you missed it last time, here is our Open House Staff Slideshow - 2020/2021
Typically a big part of our Open House is our introduction of staff in the gym and then students are able to tour the building and see those staff members in the classrooms. Because we are not able to be in person this year Mr. Wall, our wonderful multimedia, yearbook and keyboarding teacher, has put together a slideshow to allow families to see faces, to see what peoples roles are in the building, and to see contact information for everyone!
