To kick things off, the last week of February there will be a book fair in the library to earn money for new books. The fair will be open before, during, and after school and during conferences. The book fair is through McLean & Eakin Booksellers. Books purchased at their store and through their website can also benefit our school library all year, just mention Charlevoix Elementary!
Through March, keep an eye out for door decorations and Read a Button, Read a Hat, Read a Shirt, and Rayder Dress Up Days!

Social Studies
English Language Arts
We are wrapping up our persuasive writing on chocolate milk. It has been interesting to hear their strong opinions on if chocolate milk is a healthy drink for children or just vitamins drenched in sugar. They are publishing their work next week before beginning the Kiwanis Club Vandenberg Essay Contest.
In Out of My Mind, by Sharon Draper, our main character, Melody, has started going to a public school. Her frustration continues to grow due to not being able to communicate and being treated as if she is stupid.
Attention 5th & 6th Grade Parents!
Let’s go skiing to celebrate student success and an active lifestyle!! 5th and 6th graders will travel to Mt. McSauba on Monday, March 4, 2019. The cost of this trip will be $10 per student. This includes bussing, equipment rental, and lift tickets. Activities available include: downhill skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, and sledding.
We will be staying at the hill all day (10:00-2:30) so students need to plan ahead.
Lunch: Students will have a couple options when it comes to lunch.
They may plan on bringing a sack lunch from home to take to the ski hill.
They can also purchase a sack lunch from the cafeteria.
Or students will also have the option to purchase lunch at the Mt. McSauba Concession Stand. They will offer many lunch options on this day including: chili, chicken noodle soup, hot dogs, nachos, pizza, and walking tacos. Student meal rates will be offered on this day.
Students will need to bring all winter weather gear this day including snow pants, jacket, boots, hat, gloves, and helmet (McSauba has extra helmets they can loan students). Students are welcome to bring their own equipment to school that day. We will transport equipment to and from CES that day.
