Holly Academy News & Views
January 14, 2022
Holly Academy has several "mottos" that define us as a school community. They include, "It's great to be a Husky", "Dare to be remarkable", "Power of the Pack", and "Character defines us". As we experience the increase in COVID-19 cases in our adjacent counties, our school community cases are increasing, as well. As you probably know, several local districts have pivoted to remote teaching and learning due to their inability to cover ill staff members and to meet the 75% attendance requirements. Each of our mottos has come into play as our staff, including substitute teachers, have rallied to ensure our classes are covered and we are honoring our commitment to in-person learning. We are hopeful that we can continue to experience face-to-face instruction, as we know that is optimal. I am so very grateful to our entire staff for their willingness to do what it takes to provide our normal school experience. Thank you, also, to our families for being so flexible as we continue to navigate through our new normal! Power of the Pack!
Dress down-support Oxford Feb.3
Holly Academy is honored to participate in a statewide initiative, sponsored by the MHSAA to support Oxford! We will have a dress-down day on Thursday, February 3rd. If students wear an Oxford Strong shirt or blue and yellow, they will be able to dress down! The Oxford Strong shirts only come in adult sizes, so most of our elementary students will not be able to wear the actual shirt. If your Husky does not wear the Oxford Strong shirt and they participate by wearing blue and yellow, please send in $1.00 to be donated for the memorial.
More than 80% of the T-shirts' cost — $16.20 of the $20 — will be donated, according to the MHSAA release. The general public can order T-shirts at supportoxfordstrong.com. Merchandise items include T-shirts, long-sleeve T-shirts, crewneck sweatshirts, and hoodies, with all profits going to Oxford. Individual orders will be charged sales tax and shipping fees.
If you would like to learn more about the statewide initiative, here is the article:
Thank you for your support. Power of the Pack!
Make-ups occur throughout the above two weeks, depending on the grade level, in addition to a full week (1/31-2/4) solely dedicated to ensuring all students get the necessary time to start/finish the tests.
I wanted to take a moment to thank all of the teachers for their hard work and positive preparation they are providing students for the upcoming tests. A huge thank you to Mr. Mison, Mrs. Bunka, and Mrs. Craven for taking the lead as our proctors, spending hours to ensure these next three weeks unfold seamlessly. I am very excited to see the success and growth in our students at HA!
Attention 8th grade parents: Please keep your eyes open for transition information coming your way on your school of choice, specifically if your student will be attending Fenton High School. Much is happening and I will be in touch with you via email to ensure a smooth transition for you and your student.
Remember: This year’s Spelling Bee is on February 10th. Keep encouraging your students to sign up!
Get lots of rest over the long weekend, Huskies! We want you ready to rock your upcoming tests. See you Tuesday!

COVID Policy and Procedure for Holly Academy
As you know, the CDC and MDHHS have revised the quarantine guidelines for positive COVID cases and quarantines due to exposure to a positive case. We have decided to align HA's guidelines with the CDC's new guidelines for five-day quarantines. As we have 12 months of data to analyze under the previous protocol, if transmission heightens due to the new guidelines we will revert back to the ten-day quarantine for positive cases and exposures. We do not want to unduly keep our Huskies out of our learning environment, but student safety is paramount. Please read the revised guidelines below.
COVID Positive Cases
● Students who test positive for COVID will be required to quarantine for 5 days from
the onset of symptoms date
● On the 6th day, students may return to school as long as they are symptom-free
● When it is reported a student is positive for COVID, administration will continue contact
tracing and contacting parents of exposed students
● Parents of students who are exposed to a positive COVID case in the classroom will
have the option to quarantine their student
● If the parent chooses to quarantine their student, the student will be required to quarantine for 5 days from the onset of the positive case’s symptoms
COVID Positive Cases in the Home
● Students who have a positive COVID case in the home will be required to quarantine for
5 days from the onset of symptoms date
● On the 6th day, students may return to school as long as they are symptom-free
Close contacts of a COVID-19 case do not need to quarantine at home if they:
- Had confirmed COVID-19 within the last 90 days; and/or
- Are up to date on all recommended COVID-19 vaccines for which they are eligible
Thank you for being so diligent with adhering to COVID guidelines. Power of the Pack!

Kroger Community Rewards
The Kroger Family of Companies is committed to community engagement, positive social impact, and charitable giving at the national and local levels. Every community is unique, but our common goal is to partner with the neighborhoods we serve and help the people there live healthier lives.
One of the ways in which we do this is through our Kroger Community Rewards program. This program makes fundraising easy by donating to local organizations based on the shopping you do every day. Once you link your card to an organization, all you have to do is shop at Kroger and swipe your Shopper’s Card. Here’s how it works:
1. Create a digital account.
A digital account is needed to participate in Kroger Community Rewards. If you already have a digital account, simply link your Shopper’s Card to your account so that all transactions apply toward the organization you choose.
2. Link your Card to an organization.
Selecting the organization that you wish to support is as simple as updating the Kroger Community Rewards selection on your digital account.
1. Sign in to your digital account.
2. Search for your organization here.
3. Enter the name or NPO number of the organization you wish to support.
- Holly Academy PTO (Code: 91555)
4. Select the appropriate organization from the list and click “Save”.
Your selected organization will also display in the Kroger Community Rewards section of your account. If you need to review or revisit your organization, you can always do so under your Account details.
3. Your organization earns.
Any transactions moving forward using the Shopper’s Card number associated with your digital account will be applied to the program, at no added cost to you. Kroger donates annually to participating organizations based on your percentage of spending as it relates to the total spending associated with all participating Kroger Community Rewards organizations.
