Fifth Grade News

Back to the Books

We settled in after the break without any difficulties. Seating was rearranged, accordion folders were organized, and we got off to a fresh start for 2016.

In Social Studies, we have now entered the Mid West. In Language Arts, we started "I Spy". Our reading groups have developed richer conversation as students continue to discuss the author's purpose and the characters' points of view. We finished our Probability Unit in Math and are beginning Fraction Computation. However, the talk of the town has been about Science this past week. Students discussed the mechanics of sound by creating, composing, and performing on their instruments. For Mr. Chancler's sake--although he assures us he has enjoyed the innovation--we would like to ask the students to please leave their homemade instruments at home once their symphonies have been presented.

Pennington's coat drive is still going on and we will gladly accept your donations to help keep those who are in need warm for the winter.

The Science Fair is underway. The first form was due today. We'd like to ask for your support to help our students be up-to-date on the information and due dates for each facet of the project. All of this can be seen on Mr. Chancler's School Fusion page.

As the weather has gotten colder, we want to make sure that the 5th Grade is bundled up and prepared. Remember that leggings are against the uniform policy; please wear tights instead.

I hope we all have a wonderful three day weekend as we celebrate the positive impact Martin Luther King made on our country.
