How to read your PowerSchool Schedule
It can be difficult to read your schedule so we will provide you with a few instructions but don’t worry if you don’t quite understand it as we will walk you through it on the first day of school. You may see some blank squares on your schedule but these spaces have a class in them they just don’t show up on the screen. Here are the basics on how to read a junior high schedule:
The schedule is read left to right horizontally, NOT up and down in columns!
Science, Social Studies, Physical Education, and French are only a semester long so you will only have each of them for only half of the year.
Math and Language Arts are every day for the entire year
You will have 2 different options each semester, so a total of 4 options over the year
One option will be every Monday and Wednesday for a semester and the other option will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays for a semester
M1 (in the picture below) stands for Mondays
T3 (in the picture below) stands for Tuesdays
S1 (in the picture below) stands for Semester 1 (September to end of January)
S2 (in the picture below) stands for Semester 2 (February to end of June)
The numbers across the top (in the picture below) stands for the Blocks in the day, we have 5 Blocks every day.
Options classes for Grade 7s and 8s are in Block 5 and options classes for Grade 9s are Block 4 every day (red circled classes in the picture).
According to the schedule above, this student would have Active Living and Outdoor Education for options in the first semester and Building Construction and Drama in the second semester.

High School Students...
If you want to make a change, you must have a plan ready for your phone appointment!
High school students can request changes to their timetables by making a phone appointment to do so. There are a number of different factors in changing your courses and your appointment will only be 10 minutes long so you must have a plan ready for the appointment.
Be prepared to talk about the following items:
1. Are you requesting to challenge a course that you do not have a teacher recommendation for? You will need to complete a Placement Appeal Form.
Students will be placed in classes based on teacher recommendation and the criteria that are listed here in this Google Form. Students wishing to take courses at a level at which they have not met the prerequisite and/or recommended grade must complete a Google form by clicking on this “Placement Appeal Form” link. This is to ensure that you are ready to challenge the next course level.
2. Do you have a full timetable?
All grade 10 and 11 students must carry a full course load of 40 credits (four courses every semester), you will not have spares. All grade 12 students must plan a timetable that puts them in line for graduation. Grade 12 students need to:
- have enough credits in their schedule to add up to 105 total credits by the end of the school year.
- know their current high school graduation status by viewing their myPass account with Alberta Education that they created in school.
- know that spares will only be granted if you are in line for graduation in June 2023.
- check the criteria to receive an Alberta High School diploma here.
3. Which courses do you want and how would they fit in your schedule?
Use the Semester 1 and Semester 2 schedules below to plan your courses/timetable for the year. Bring this completed plan with you to your appointment.
P.S.: You will notice that there are no classes to choose in Block 2. This is because Block 2 is a rotating block every day only for high school students. Each day we will have a repeat of either Block 1, 3, 4 or 5 during Block 2. It's easier to explain in person! Don't worry if you're new to us, you'll catch on to it quickly.
