Happy Pride Month!!
4J Gender Sexuality Alliance's (GSA) have been busy this year!
GSAs across the district, along with their school communities, observed National Coming Out Day, Transgender Visibility Day, and the Day of Silence. Many GSAs also collaborated and celebrated with the other Affinity Groups in their schools. Six elementary schools started “Rainbow Alliances” which have been embraced by students and families.
Our high school GSAs formed a 4J GSA student leadership team, which met monthly to share ideas & resources for their individual GSAs. They also planned an all-district high school Tea Party to build community with all high school GSAs and celebrate the end of the year. About 40 students and some GSA advisors gathered to enjoy music, tea, food, and activities put together by the GSA student leadership team.
High School GSA students collaborated with the University of Oregon Museum of Natural & Cultural History to table at the opening day of the Outliers & Outlaws exhibit, a lesbian history of Eugene. Later in the Spring, the Museum of Natural & Cultural History hosted a 4J GSA night at the museum, to provide 4J GSA students with a special viewing of the Outliers & Outlaws exhibit and interact with museum staff and some people featured in the exhibit.
GSA students have also helped plan our 4J Pride Fest. All 4J high school GSAs have planned activities for the Pride Fest and have volunteered their time for the Pride Fest. GSA students are excited to celebrate Pride Month with the 4J community and look forward to more GSA fun next school year!
