What’s Happening in our Brownridge Library
Kindergartens
We are thrilled to announce that soon we have the opportunity to take part in observing baby chickens hatch in the library. The Full Day Kindergarten Program focuses on Inquiry-based learning, a process that builds on students’ natural curiosity about the world in which they live. Housing the chicks in the library will give all the kindergartens and other classes who are interested the opportunity to take part in the learning. We will be displaying books that our kindergartens can read to learn more about the lifecycle of baby chicks.
Primary Grade 1-3
This year students will be coming to the library as part of their Daily 5 rotation. Each day 5 students from each class grades 1 to 3 will be coming to the library to Read Independently. During these 40 min sessions students will also have an opportunity to receive support in selecting “just right fit” books that interest them.
Junior/Intermediates
The junior/intermediates had their first visit to the library this week. Together we co-created the success criteria to help them choose appropriate texts that are of interest to them.
Book Check-Out
Students in Kindergarten to grade 3 will be permitted to take 1 book out of the library. They will be checked out for a period of 1 week. If they would like to keep them longer they will need to renew them. If books are overdue students will not be permitted to take another book out until the one is returned.
Students in Kindergarten to grade 3 will be receiving library book bags. Please remind your child/children to take good care of it as it is the only one they will receive for the year. I encourage students to always keep the bags with their books in their knapsacks so that they can read them at home and at school.
Junior /Intermediate students will be permitted to check out 2 books. However if they need books for a project or assignment they can speak to me.
Library Open book exchange times
Morning Recess on Mon- Wed & Fri
