All-Star Announcements
What's Happening at Venable, May 2019
Retirements Announced
It is always hard to say goodbye to individuals who have dedicated their lives to our students and our school. Two such individuals are leaving us at the end of the school year. We wish Ms. Paige and Ms. Mimms the best as they embark on the next chapters of their lives. Congratulations to them both!
Valeta Paige
Ms. Paige has been our beloved assistant principal for the last 15 of her 45 years in public education in Virginia. Her smiling face and loving way with students, staff, and parents will be impossible to replace. Ms. Paige's kindness and patience make us all better individuals.
Nancy Mimms
Ms. Mimms has been teaching 2nd grade at Venable for 14 of her 41 years. Her calm, cheerful, can-do attitude toward her work has helped countless children and teammates rise to be their best. Year after year, the community she has created in her classroom is nothing short of magical.
Looking Ahead to 2019-2010
It's hard to believe, but after SOL testing this month, we will be working on the transition to next school year. We use a thoughtful, deliberate process to place students into classes each year. This process includes input from specialists as well as homeroom teachers about academic and social needs of the students. It is a big puzzle and parents are a part of the puzzle. In order to help us make the best placement decisions for your child, please put in writing to Mrs. Kershner your answers to the following questions about each of your children. (Please put your answers for each of your children on a separate sheet of paper or separate email. This helps Mrs. Kershner stay organized!):
You may choose to send your responses through email or on paper through June 2.
- What went well this year and what could be even better for your child next year?
- In what kind of learning environment does s/he tend to thrive most?
- Are there one or two other students with whom s/he should be placed in order to facilitate a smooth transition?
- If your children are multiples, is your preference to have them together or separate, or would you like to discuss this with administration?
You may choose to send your responses through email or on paper through June 2.

Moving UP! Event on June 7
We are changing the way that we celebrate the last day of school for all students this year. We invite all families to join us for our final School-Wide Morning Meeting on Friday June 7 at 10:00am on the blacktop. We will move each grade up and celebrate their year of accomplishments. Then we will Boogie on the Blacktop from 10:30-11:00. Dismissal is at noon that day, so we will squeeze in bagged lunches (or you may take your child directly after Boogie) between 11-12pm.
4th graders will have class celebrations for parents only in individual classrooms at 9:15am. They will then join us at 10 to move on up!
