Medicinal cannabis may be only hope for three-year-old Haven Holley
At the tender age of three-and-a-half years old, Haven Holley has suffered from over 10,000 epileptic seizures.
Deep in her heart, Haven's mum Brenda Jones fears that time is running out for her precious little girl - who is now functioning at the level of a two-year-old.
The effects of the seizures have taken their toll on Haven's tiny body and brain.
It keeps Jones awake at night and every spare moment she has is taken up with talking to doctors, specialists and researchers - anyone who might be able to provide the answers she is so desperately seeking.

Data Lacking to Explain Why US Doctors Prefer Keppra to Treat Pediatric Epilepsy, Researchers Say
Doctors have several anti-seizure options to treat epilepsy, but little data exists to show which of these treatments is best for children. Nevertheless, according to a recent study on therapies prescribed for children under 3 with epilepsy, doctors in the U.S. appear to prefer Keppra (levetiracetam) as either a first or second option for treatment.
The study, “Initial Treatment for Non-Syndromic Early-Life Epilepsy: an Unexpected Consensus,” was published online in Pediatric Neurology.
The study notes that when the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approves a new medicine, it’s up to clinicians to prescribe that medicine off-label to all age groups. But trials leading to approval of therapies for adults often exclude information about which medications are best for children, says William D. Gaillard, MD, lead author of the study and head of Child Neurology and Epilepsy, Neurophysiology and Critical Care Neurology at Children’s National Health System in Washington, D.C.

Former Destiny's Child star Michelle Williams is shining a light on mental health. The 38-year-old singer tweeted last week that she is "better" after reportedly leaving treatment for depression. In a July 17 Instagram post, Williams had shared with fans that she underwent treatment.
“For years I have dedicated myself to increasing awareness of mental health and empowering people to recognize when it’s time to seek help, support and guidance from those that love and care for your wellbeing,” she wrote.
“I recently listened to the same advice I have given to thousands around the world and sought help from a great team of healthcare professionals," she added. “Today I proudly, happily and healthily stand here as someone who will continue to always lead by example as I tirelessly advocate for the betterment of those in need. If you change your mind, you can change your life.” Williams has struggled with depression since she was a teenager.
