Attendance is VERY Important
Just a quick note about the importance of attendance and students being in class everyday. I know there are lots of sicknesses going around and we want everyone to be healthy, that is most important. Lots of students have been absent and with our rigorous daily schedule I don't want anyone to fall behind. I would ask that if your child was absent that they come and see me before school on the day of their return to pick up anything they missed or complete any work.
Thank you!
What's Happening in the Classroom??
- Innovation: Students will be in the innovation lab for the second week and will be creating their own educational project on Scratch-a coding site!
- Language Arts -We will continue our new unit: Weather and Climate. The essential question we will focus on is: How can we predict the unknown? This week students will continue with poetry and will begin reading informational texts where they will focus on determining main idea and detail.
- Math -We will continue our math unit that includes, time, geometry and measurement. Click here for the Unit 5 Parent Letter to review vocabulary and skills we will be focusing on throughout the unit. Please have your child practice telling time at home and discussing the amount of time different activities take (elapsed time). This week we will continue practicing elapsed time, measurement and introduce geometry.
- Writing - Students will continue to explore the three types of writing: opinion, informational and narrative. Students will be working on a research project where they will be learning about a type of severe weather of their choice. They will research using a variety of sources and then create a presentation for the class to share what they have learned. Additionally, students will write an informational essay about their severe weather.
- Vocabulary- Students will be able to use reference materials to build their vocabulary. They will show their understanding of the words by using them in a sentence during collaborative conversations and in writing.
- 7 Habits - Habit 4: Think Win Win. Students in Room E222 are focusing on having consideration for others and when conflict arises, thinking whats best for everyone!
- Genius Hour- Students are on their research phase of the project. Students are working on finding information related to each of their essential questions. Once students feel that they are knowledgeable about their topic they will begin their final project to showcase their learning.
