PEP – In the home stretch!
Afraid you can't boost your PEP score before the end of April? Never fear – there's still time! There are still lots of ways to increase your score in the next two months! Remember, the highest earning units at the end of April will be awarded a gift from Livonia PTSA Council.
Don't forget, every PTA/PTSA unit will receive PEP credit for joining us at Founders' Day and for creating a centerpiece. That's an easy 100 points per attendee and 50 points per centerpiece.
Please know that all PTA/PTSA units who are participating in YMAD, your PEP credit will be given after the March 1st deadline. Once our YMAD committee collects all those participating, that information will be given to PEP and proper credit will be given at that time.

It's that time of year when we start looking forward to those end of the year celebrations, festivities, events, etc. What better way to gain more members?! Maybe have an incentive for those who are members at these events. Are you looking for future board members for your slate? Make sure they are members of your PTA/PTSA. There's still time!
Please remember to send Michigan PTA their dues for all new members by the 28th of every month to remain in compliance.

Council Advocacy Report
DECLINE TO SIGN
Recently you may have seen Let MI Kids Learn pop up on social media – this is related to a petition drive that is starting up. The Michigan PTA recommends that our members Decline to Sign the Let MI Kids Learn petition. The goal of this petition is to create a backdoor voucher system that would let donors receive tax credits from the School Aid Fund for up to $500 million dollars per year. This would not only violate the Michigan State Constitution, it would also take taxpayer dollars out of the School Aid Fund and give them to wealthy donors in the form of a tax credit for donations to nonprofits that benefit private schools.
The Michigan PTA has created a document to share with your membership on why this would hurt Michigan public school students, an explanation of their history and some talking points.
Please share this information with your local unit.

Nominations for Your 2022-23 Executive Board
It's time to start thinking about your board for the 2022-23 school year. Please check your bylaws regarding nominations::
- When does your committee needs to form? In many cases, it may be now.
- How many people need to be on the committee?
- Who is eligible to be nominated (do they need to be a current member)?
- Usually the slate needs to be posted for 30 days. Check your bylaws to see the timeframe needed.
- When do elections need to happen?

COUNCIL'S UNIT SPOTLIGHT
Last year, Kennedy PTA began selling birthday grams as an easy way for families to recognize students' birthdays. We sell the Birthday Grams for $5 through Memberhub. Each week, a volunteer makes the bags and delivers them to the school for distribution. One of our board members takes the information from Memberhub and inputs it into a Google spreadsheet that the board and Birthday Gram coordinator have access to, which makes it easy to keep track of. Last year, we even did door drop offs for virtual families. Each Birthday Gram includes novelty items, a ring pop, pencil, glow sticks, keychain, and bookmark. If you're looking for a new idea, give birthday grams a try!

Webster's PTA board members wanted to do something special for the entire school on Valentine's Day. This year we ordered suckers and attached a sweet little message and tied them up with some red ribbon. These were then passed out to all the students and staff to let them know how much they mean to us.
We are now actively finishing up our prep for March is Reading Month. We have two authors lined up to visit the students. Mary Morgan is a Michigan author who writes mystery books about our National Parks and the other author is Peter Denkelson who writes/speaks about overcoming adversity and living his best life no matter what cards he was given. Both of these authors were flexible when working with our Covid protocols such as small group presentations or presentations over Zoom. Along with the reading log prizes that we are handing out, we are also having a book exchange where students can leave with a "new to them" book to celebrate March is Reading Month.
