Principal Search Survey!
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Last week, I had the pleasure of having lunch with 24 students who have shown consistent BEN expectations. During lunch we talk about many things related to school, weekend plans and what they like most about school. I am so impressed with the insight and high level of care and concern they show for others. I don’t only see this during lunch, but in the hallways and in classrooms. Thank you parents and caregivers for helping to grow kind and compassionate students!
Here at Ben Franklin, we have a few goals to improve outcomes for our students. One of the goals is to grow skills in reading. To do this it is important to also build a culture of reading not only at school, but at home. We have several events coming up where you can support this culture both at school and at home. Research shows that the more time children spend reading, the better their skills become and then are able to take on more challenging content.
The following reading events are coming soon:
March Madness -Read Aloud Challenge - Watch for more information coming soon. The children will view a recording of staff members reading aloud their favorite book and then students vote on their top choices. Eventually narrowing down the pool from 16, to the elite 8, to the final 4 and then the championship round.
Read-a-thon: February 22, 23, 24, & 25 - The PTO is sponsoring a Read-a-thon. Students will be recording the number of minutes spent reading at home. Reading time can include: independent reading time, books read to students, science, social studies, audio/video books, reading signs, labels - all in an effort to highlight to students just how much we read each day.
Book Fair - March 14-18 - The Scholastic Spring Book Fair will be held at Ben Franklin, with expanded shopping in the evenings of Wed. and Thurs. Until 7 PM. Watch for more information coming soon.
Thank you to everyone who has continued to help support a safe drop off and pick up for our students. I appreciate your efforts!
Have a fantastic week!

ATTENDANCE REMINDER
K-5 SPRING CONCERT UPDATES-MARK AND ADJUST YOUR CALENDARS
Parents - we originally had some K-5 music events slotted on the calendar coming up at the end of January and the beginning of February. We have been reviewing our offerings for the music program and working with Saber Center availability to adjust these events. Moving into the spring, we will be offering concert events for grades 1, 3, and 5 at the Saber Center this year. By offering this event, we hope to present a larger scope for families so they can experience the progress and growth across the grade levels. Therefore, grades K, 2, and 4 will not have a spring concert event this year.
Please mark your calendars for the following event later this spring:
BF Wednesday, April 27 - Grades 1, 3, 5 @ 6:30 pm at the Saber Center
