February 2023
Happy Late February HMR Families! We are looking forward to a great month of learning as we wind up our assessment window. Our staff will be hard at work analyzing student data to best program and teach your student(s). We appreciate you supporting your student(s) during this time in championing them to do their best, nurturing them during the assessment window, and making sure they got enough rest and activity to help their brain’s stay alert! As we continue to support student growth for the remainder of the year, we appreciate your continuous involvement in supporting, nurturing, and encouraging your student(s) to participate fully in their school day!
Grade 5 Ski Trip
We want to thank our 5th grade teachers for giving our fifth grade students the opportunity to get out and enjoy the slopes at Detroit Mountain. Our students were responsible, respectful, and safe. Thank you to our PTA for supporting our students with opportunities of a life time! It is so magical when students who may have never had the opportunity to try something new like skiing, try new outdoor activities, and for our students to show our greater community how wonderful our students are at HMR! Well done everyone!!!

Recess, Early Outs, and, Late Starts:
Recess:
Please provide outdoor clothing that will protect children from the winter elements. Children will go out for recess on a daily basis unless the temperature and/or wind chill hits -10 degrees.
Early Out:
We want to emphasize the fact that we will not allow a child to leave the school for early storm dismissal without having contact from a parent indicating that the child/ren have permission to either walk home or ride the bus. If you pick-up your child during an early storm release, we ask that you physically enter the building, so we can confirm they have adult supervision.
Late Start:
Also, in case of a late start, students are not allowed to come to school, at either campus, before 10:00 at Roosevelt. Students can be dropped off at either campus from 10:10 at the Horace Mann Campus. This allows staff to get to school so there is supervision for our students. Also, no breakfast will be served at either campus when there is a 2 hour late start.
PTA
Our next PTA meeting is Monday March 13 at 6:15pm at Roosevelt. Please come and share your ideas for upcoming events for our students!
Spring Conferences
Spring conference will be held Thursday March 2nd 3pm-7pm and Monday March 6th from 3pm-7pm.
As always, we are looking for 100% attendance at conferences and work very hard to accommodate family schedules. Research shows that family involvement is the single most influencing indicator of sustainable graduation rates according to current educational research.
Here is the link to sign up for conferences. Specialists are added as well if you would like to contact and conference with PE, Music, and Art. This is through PCT fast for those of you who are new to us this is an online registering process that HMR uses for Conference Sign Up.

HMR Child Care for 2023-2024 School Year
Earlier this month, we made the decision to end our agreement with the YMCA for our before school and after school childcare programs. They have served our HMR families well and we thank them for providing support for our students so our parents can continue to provide for their children.
YMCA will continue to support HMR afterschool programming and Summer Support. Our agreement with the YMCA will officially end on August 25th, 2023.
We welcome our new student care partners, Boys and Girls Club for the beginning of the 23-24 school year. Boys and Girls Club will begin their services on August 28th, 2023.
We have some transition elements to work through so here is the first of more communication that will come from HMR Administration and our friends at the Boys and Girls Club. Below is what was shared at our PTA meeting on Feb. 13th:
A few highlights you can share with your PTA families tonight:
Our website is www.bgcrrv.org.
Online school year registration will begin April 18.
On non-school days, parents can schedule care at one of our youth centers located at 2500 18th Street S or 4809 S University. Site hours are 6:45am – 6:00pm.Registration for ‘all-dayer’ open one month prior.
We offer flexible scheduling. Parents are only charged for the days scheduled in advance.
Our team will work on a communication plan with your families.
More to come with this exciting opportunity!!!
Parent Visitation
At our PTA meeting this month, parents asked about eating lunch with their students. We talked about the significant lack of space in both buildings to accommodate this activity. We also talked about the FPS Visitation Policy that we will follow. Parents are able to have lunch with their students, in the school setting, twice a semester. That is according to the FPS Visitation Policy. Parents are able to have a pic-nic lunch with their child at either campus when weather permits at any time. When parents want to eat lunch with their child, we ask that you follow the policy and give the appropriate notice and if approved, there will be a separate setting for you and your child to eat lunch. We will not be allowing any “friends” to accompany you at this time. It will only be the parent and their child. Please see AP 4650 Visitation Policy for more information.
