We will begin the semester's Apprentice Training Program on Wednesday, August 31st. If there are any students who are interested please communicate with your home room teacher. This is a great key to opening the door to an immediate career upon graduating high school. SWAP hopes that everyone had a restful and enjoyable summer. The SWAP staff continued meeting with students over the summer and conducted four successful workshops!

During the summer workshops, students learned how to ride the GVT, participated in a Food Handlers Class, Cooking Workshop and finished off with the CPR/First-Aid Workshop. It is exciting and encouraging to see students learn skills that will help them to be successful now and in the future. SWAP also met with students and continued working on applications, resumes, self-advocacy skills, job shadows, tours, and many other pre-employment activities.

  • SWAP has scheduled the upcoming workshops for the 2022/2023 school year:

  • October 13th - Budgeting and Dress for Success 9am-2:30pm

  • January 17th - Resume and Mock Interview, 9am- 2:30pm

  • March 16th - Youth Job Fair at the Career Center, 9am-2:30pm

  • May 24th - Group Business Tours, 9am-2:30pm

Please encourage students to attend these workshops. It is a great time to learn important skills! We will keep you updated with important information and dates throughout the year.

Students can sign up online at gjswap.org under the "Events Tab". They can also sign up by calling 970-254-6011.

SWAP is excited to begin this school year and I look forward to working with the staff t help students with their employments goals.

As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to SWAP. We are excited to assist young adults with their career journeys!

Compact Engines Program

Compact Engines is building "teamwork", learning shop safety, basic hand tools, and fasteners. Students were able to identify OSHA and EPA violations that were staged in the shop area. This teaches students real work scenarios and gives them experience to identify possible violations on the actual job site a great way to teach job safety. Way to go!
