Lakeland Ridge Weekly Update
November 3, 2023
Today, we honoured all the brave individuals who served in the armed forces and defended the values Canadians enjoy today. We also honoured the military personnel who are presently taking an active role in bringing stability and peace to other parts of the world. Thank you for the Poppy for Peace donations on behalf of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Next week is November break and there is no school from November 6-10. We wish all our Lakeland Ridge students and families a safe and relaxing break. We look forward to seeing students again on Monday, November 13.
Staffing News
Dear LLR Families,
It is with mixed emotions that I let you all know I have accepted the position of Executive Staff Officer, Teacher Employment Services with the Alberta Teachers’ Association. I will remain in my role as principal of Lakeland Ridge until Christmas Break and will begin my new position with the ATA in the New Year. Once the new principal is selected, I will work with them to ensure a smooth transition. It has been an absolute honour being the principal at LLR for the last 5 years and I will truly miss all of the students, staff, and families. I will keep you up to date as new information becomes available.
Sincerely,
Jeff Huculak

PAS Meeting – November 14, 2023
We will be holding a special PAS meeting at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, November 14, following our School Council meeting. All parents are welcome to attend. In October, we held our PAS AGM meeting. Unfortunately, we only had four parents in attendance and were unable to form quorum and elect a new executive council for this school year. At this meeting, we will try and hold elections once again. We will be seeking nominations for the following positions: Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer and Directors at Large. We are not able to operate PAS without a Treasurer. Here are the links for the PAS Bylaws and Duties of the Officers. If we are unsuccessful in filling the positions, we will discuss other options. Please contact the school if you have any questions about PAS.
STUDIO D UPDATE
Counselling Corner
Monday, November 13, is the start of Bullying Awareness Week. Bullying is when someone does something repeatedly and purposefully to cause someone else harm. When someone unintentionally does or says something hurtful and they do it once, that is rude. When someone intentionally does or says something hurtful and they do it once, that is mean. When someone intentionally does or says something hurtful and they keep doing it, even when you tell them to stop or show them you are upset, that is bullying. The key to stopping bullying is to report it when you experience it. We encourage students to speak with a trusted adult like a teacher, parent, supervisor, or school counsellor.
The opposite of bullying is showing kindness. Kindness is defined as being friendly, generous, and considerate. Kindness is a choice, is intentional, is selfless, is a movement, is grace, is not always easy, and is caring and understanding. Kindness involves treating people with respect even when we disagree with them. Kindness is when we go beyond what is expected of us and reach out to help others. There are 3 simple steps to performing an act of kindness. First, find out what the other person needs. Next, think about how you would feel if you had that same need. Finally, offer your help. There are endless ways to show someone you care. Ways to practice kindness every day include using good manners, taking time to acknowledge and appreciate people, offering to help without being asked, smiling, being present, making others feel comfortable, paying attention when someone is talking, and being kind to yourself. Our theme for Bullying Awareness Week is "Kind All The Time." We encourage one another to look for opportunities to do something kind for someone in need. We will work hard to stop bullying. Together, we can make sure we are being kind to one another so our school is a safe place where everyone feels they belong!

Respiratory Illness Guidance
The health and safety of staff, students and visitors is a top priority. Continue to reinforce the following hygiene habits to protect staff and students from spreading respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19.
- Stay home if you’re feeling sick.
- Wash or sanitize your hands often.
- Cover your coughs and sneezes.
- Avoid touching your face.
- Clean and disinfect high touch surfaces regularly.
- Wear a mask if you get sick or develop symptoms while at school or work.
As per Alberta Health guidelines, staff, students, contractors and visitors who have symptoms of respiratory Illness or test positive for COVID, should stay home until:
- symptoms have improved,
- they feel well enough to resume normal activities, and
- they have been fever-free for 24 hours without using fever-reducing medications.
For anyone who has a respiratory illness or has tested positive for COVID, it is recommended that they wear a mask for a total of 10 days from the onset of symptoms—even if the symptoms have resolved or improved—when in indoor settings with other individuals.
