Dear Parents,
In my role as principal of Madison Elementary I have many important tasks and responsibilities. None is more important than the safety and security of our 440 students and our many staff members. The Madison staff believes strongly in the primary importance of student safety as well. Our school Safety Committee has been meeting regularly to review protocols and make adjustments and improvements when necessary. Please allow me to review some of our school emergency and safety protocols.
Arrival and Dismissal: It is important that all students and parents remember the following:
• Students may not enter school grounds before 9 a.m. unless for BASP, club, or special event.
• Students must leave school grounds immediately after school unless supervised by a parent.
“Lock-Down” Emergency: Parent volunteers should be familiar with our protocols:
• All students and adults rush to a position of safety if emergency announced.
• Follow the instructions of the nearest staff member.
Severe Weather Emergency: If severe weather causes parents to retrieve their children during an emergency situation, the school will enact the following:
• Parents/emergency contacts will enter the Multi-Purpose Room through Door 3.
• Staff will assemble to guide dismissal process and retrieve students for exit.
• Students only will be released to those adults listed as parents or emergency contacts.
• Students not able to be picked up will be cared for until a parent or emergency contact becomes available.
Attendance: We take our attendance taking responsibilities very seriously. In fact, too often, our office is forced to call the police to report the unknown whereabouts of absent students.
• Remember to always call the main office to report an absence. These calls can be made the night before or morning of the absence. Simply telling the teacher does not suffice.
• Check to make sure all emergency contact numbers are up-to-date.
Thank you very much for helping us keep your children safe and secure at all times.
Sincerely,
Tim Callahan, Principal
Madison Elementary

Introducing DirectorySpot app for PTA Members
Madison PTA is excited to announce that we are implementing a new app, DirectorySpot, for our school directory. You will now be able to access the Madison School directory right from your smartphone with updated information.
The app will contain student names, student phone, student address, parent email addresses and parent names, grade levels and teachers. The app is very secure and only parents and staff of Madison School will be granted access. Each user will log on with an authorized email address and will set a password. If you would like more information on the security features, please visit http://www.directoryspot.net/security.html.
We are giving all Madison PTA members access to the electronic app, which is accessible from an iPhone, Android or on the Web. With the iPhone and Android technology, you can call, text, or email other parents or teachers with one click, right from the app.
Here are some screenshots from our new app (data is fictional):
Madison PTA members will receive an email with instructions on how to download DirectorySpot and set a password. PTA members will also receive a printed directory in October.
We hope you will love the “On the Go” directory. If you have any questions, please contact Sarah Johnson at skjohnson75@hotmail.com.

Market Day is a yummy way to help Madison
Madison participates in a monthly fundraising food program called Market Day.
Each month, restaurant-quality food products from the same vendors that supply many upscale restaurants are available for purchase. Market Day products are competitively priced and our PTA will earn profit on all purchases. Last year Market Day sales helped Madison raise nearly $2,000. These monies helped fund Multicultural Day, Explore More Day and many other important events for our students.
It's easy to participate. Simply order online at marketday.com or return the Order Guide to school. Pick up your order on the designated day and enjoy delicious, quick-to-prepare foods for your family.
Online orders for the October sale are due Sat., Oct. 11 by 11 p.m. Pickup is right after school on Wed., Oct. 15 from 3:30-4 p.m.
Look for our flyer each month and support Madison in an easy delicious way!
Contact Michele Triscik (mtriscik@prodigy.net) and Amy Schmidt (schmidt.a@me.com) with any questions.
