A Message from the Principal
Greetings,
What a fun week it’s been! We kicked off with Boomer from the Pacers visiting Monday to encourage good choices. We had a fantastic morning of professional learning with teachers on Wednesday, kiddos got to sleep in on Thursday, we successfully held an A.L.I.C.E. drill and our Scholastic Book Fair was a HUGE success. Thanks to those of you who volunteered. With all of this fun and with the upcoming holidays, it’s a good time to remind your child to work hard and follow our V.I.B.E. (Very Important Behavior Expectations)! ;)
Thanksgiving is next week and as I reflect on everything I am grateful for, working with our Maple staff and families is on my list. I absolutely love what I do and your children bring me joy (sometimes giggles) every day! Thank you for sharing them with us. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!
Sincerely,
Nikki Harrison
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
It was such a fun week in the library! Students had a great time visiting the Enchanted Forest Book Fair and participating in fun activities! Several students won books, posters and other great prizes!
I would like to give a great big thanks to our wonderful Maple families for supporting our book fair and to our fabulous parent volunteers who worked so hard this week! Because of you our book fair was a great success!

The Great Big Holiday Bake Off!
Our First and Second Grade students are baking up a warm and wonderful winter program called The Great Big Holiday Bake Off! This culinary classic will be on December 13th at 6:30 PM. Dress rehearsal for anyone unable to make the evening performance will be at 1:30 PM. I would love to see as many bakers as possible on stage so keep your child’s favorite apron close or be looking for good deals on aprons. It’s going to be a tasty good time!!!

A Message from Your School Counselor
Maple will host our ninth annual Multicultural Fair on Friday, Dec. 14 from 9:15-3 pm. Students will come during their related arts time to learn about that many cultures that make up our school. It won’t be possible without you! If you would like to share your culture, please fill out the form at the end of our newsletter. Thank you!
In January, we begin another round of sharing groups. These are groups that typically meet once a week during lunch or recess. At this time, we are prepared to offer groups on the following topics: anxiety, friendship skills, study skills, self-control and family dynamics. If you feel your child could benefit from one of these groups, please contact me. I look forward to working with you and your children this year.
Finally, I am trying out a new method for communicating with our families. Click here or visit my webpage to view the first edition of 60 Seconds with Samide. Enjoy!

Frequently Asked Questions
1. If my student missed picture day or is new will their photo be in the yearbook with the class? Yes, I will take any new students picture and get them added in the yearbook. The cutoff date is February 22nd.
2. Why does Maple’s yearbook cost $18.00? Maple is a small school the contract is based on sales. Maple is such a small school that we don’t have the sales volume for bigger discounts. For other schools the more they sell they get a better deal. Plus this year we added more pages 32 to 36.
3. Is there a place that a parent could upload a great photo from a school event that could be used in the yearbook? Yes, go to community.lifetouch.com. You will need the code: RHBTLY (Uploaded images will be considered for the yearbook. Please submit photos that are at least 300 dpi to ensure acceptable print quality for the yearbook. Note: Photos from social media websites may not be acceptable quality. Please consider this when uploading images.)
I am excited for this year’s memories. Let me know if you have any other questions. I am always happy to answer. Contact me by phone 317-544-6400 or email cgmason@avon-schools.org
