Notes from the Principal
If I ask my daughter about her school day, she's likely to tell me about who made farting noises. Really? Such is the perennial parent struggle. How do we get kids to share anything meaningful about their school day? Are they learning anything?
It turns out that asking questions related to kids learning helps to support them in school because by asking questions about their learning, you're showing that you value it and that it's important. Kids pick up on the most subtle things. So, what can you do/ask?
Pay attention to the newsletters and posts that your child's teacher puts out. "I know you're learning to pay attention to characters. What does that mean?" "Are there any interesting characters in the book your teacher is reading right now?"
"It says that you're working on a narrative piece in writing. What is that?"
When we ask someone how they're doing, it conveys that we care about them. The same goes for asking questions about learning. But with kids, we often need to get specific if we want a thoughtful answer.
In other news...

Music Update from Mrs. McClanahan
Edgewood Choir is busily preparing our spring musical entitled, "Go West", which will be performed for the public on Thursday, May 2nd at the High School PAC, 6:30 p.m. We will also be performing the show for the students of Edgewood on Friday morning May 3rd. We hope many of you will take the opportunity to come and watch some incredibly talented students.
EHSA Update
Did you know…
EHSA raises money to help support our school in so many ways! Every year, each grade level is given a budget to help offset the cost of field trips. We fund class picnics (K5/5th grade) and t-shirts. Classroom supplies, recess equipment, special event supplies, and other odds and ends are supported through the EHSA.
On top of all of the little things, we have a big goal we raise money for. Last year we purchased televisions and dongles for classroom learning in the learning commons. This year (and next year!) we are raising money for a digital sign to be placed along Layton Avenue. This is a big project, and one that will both look great AND help home/school communication!
Please consider supporting our school through the Walk-a-thon on May 10th. Students raise money for EHSA, earn great prizes, and all students enjoy a fun afternoon with the Brewers Racing Sausages. All proceeds from this event will go directly towards this big goal!
Dates to remember:
- Friday, May 10th Walk-a-thon (forms and money due by Tuesday 5/7)
- Tuesday, May 14th 6:30-7:30 PM EHSA Meeting in the Learning Commons
- Tuesday, June 11th 6:30-7:30 PM EHSA Meeting in the Learning Commons
