Happy April CAASPP Testing Month!
Hello Shark Families,
Happy April! Well, it is that time of year again. Our students are gearing up to take the state tests after break between April 15th through May 3rd. Every year, California students take several statewide tests. When combined with other measures such as grades, class work, and teacher observations, these tests give families and teachers a more complete picture of their child’s learning. You can use the results to identify where your child is doing well and where they might need more support. Your child may be taking one or more of the following California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP), English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC), and Physical Fitness Test assessments in grades 3-6. The 5th grade takes the CAST, which is the summative science test.
This year, the Student Council's theme for the test is to "Dominate" the test!! The council, with the help of the Cheer Squad, will be hosting the annual kick off assembly on April 12th to spread the message. The council also wants to remind parents we are looking for snacks to sustain brain energy throughout the testing window. Also, please remember to have your student come to school on time, get plenty of rest the night before, and be ready to do their best! We look forward to DOMINATING the test!!

Safety Awareness Around Campus
Hello Families!
We are always focused on student safety here at Edgewater. We ask that you keep two things in mind.
- If you choose to park, please park and walk your student to the front office area.
- Please be extra cautious near the entry and exit driveways because walking and biking students do cross the driveways.
Thank you for being very vigilant of students.

on March 26 th. Students were put on teams of five, the challenge was to keep their jump rope
moving for 30 minutes, every 60 seconds a whistle was blown for the jumper to hand over the
jump rope to a teammate. It was so fun! Everyone did amazing! Students enjoyed the
availability to get water and sliced oranges at the break tables. For two weeks’ prior, students
learned how to keep their hearts and brains healthy while raising funds to help kids with special
hearts. Students raised $3,361.99, our school earned $300 in US Games certificates. Students
that raised funds also received thank-you gifts. Top three fund raising students were: $350.08

Join the WATCH D.O.G.S Team!
WATCH D.O.G.S.® (Dads Of Great Students) is an innovative program of the National Center for
Fathering focusing on prevention of violence in our nation’s schools by using the positive influence of fathers and father- figures for a two-fold purpose:
1) to provide an unobtrusive presence in the schools, and
2) to be a positive and active role-model for students at their school.
Who are Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students)?
Watch D.O.G.S. are fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father-figures who volunteer for at least one day each year at an official WATCH D.O.G.S.® school. During the day, Watch D.O.G.S. may read and work on flash cards with students, play at recess, eat lunch with students, watch the school entrances and hallways, assist with traffic flow, mentor students, and any other assigned activities where they actively engage with not only their own students, but other students as well. Their mere presence offers additional security at the school during the day! On the day of their participation, the participants are given a brief review of their involvement, and they wear an official WATCH D.O.G.S.® t-shirt or vest with a disposable ‘Dog Tag’ identifying them as Watch D.O.G.S.
