Tiger Talk
09/20/22
Russ Requests
To ensure the safety of our Tigers who walk, bike, or scooter home at the end of the day, please do not park on Sabino to meet your child(ren.) If you are driving to the school to pick up your child(ren) at the end of the school day, please join the car rider pick up line instead of parking on Sabino.
School is dismissed at 3 pm. The car rider line is usually moving very quickly by 3:05. To avoid waiting in a line, try arriving at the school around 3:05 pm for car rider pick up instead of parking on Sabino. Thank you for your cooperation.
Also, we are beginning to see students bringing their Pokemon cards to school. Unfortunately, these collection cards are becoming a distraction during class and causing disagreements during recess. As a result, I ask that all Pokemon cards and similar collections be kept at home. Thank you for your support!
With warmest regards,
Amy Russ, Principal
And, speaking of PTO, the WCHE Staff says "THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!"
Dear fabulous WCHE PTO members:
Thank you very much for the lovely and delicious charcuterie boxes (see photo below) that you delivered to the WCHE staff members last Friday. Everyone was thrilled with these beautiful and thoughtful gifts. What a great way to end a busy week and start a happy weekend!
We very much appreciate you and your support.

Counselor's Corner
Hello WCHE parents.
I have so enjoyed visiting our classes for guidance lessons. I'm sure it will come as no surprise to YOU that we have amazing students!
I had the opportunity to visit each classroom over the past couple of weeks to introduce myself and chat with students. The topics during this initial visit have centered around the students getting to know me, understanding the role of the school counselor, and how they can access counseling services.
I can't tell you how excited I am to get back into the classes in October and shine a spotlight on some other important SEL topics.
Have a great day,
Dustin Boren, Counselor

Tigers Embrace Hispanic Heritage Month
We are excited to embrace Hispanic Heritage Month at West Cypress Hills by learning about Latin countries and some notable Latin figures; like, Frida Kahlo, Cesar Chavez, Pele, Sonia Sotomayor, Ellen Ochoa, and Jaime Escalante.
Our Hispanic Heritage Month hallway bulletin board was designed by one of our teachers, Ms. Gomez. Thank you, Ms. Gomez!
Hispanic Heritage Month is September 15 through October 15.
Just a reminder....LTISD Bus Route 51 now runs every day every week!
Seeking Input by September 23 via Lake Travis ISD ESSER Survey
Dear Lake Travis ISD Staff, Parents and Guardians,
As you may already know, Lake Travis ISD applied to receive Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. The intent and purpose of the funding is to sustain the safe operation of schools and address student learning needs as a result of COVID-19.
As a part of ongoing ESSER provisions, the District is required to review and revise, as applicable, its plan every six months—including receiving stakeholder input to assist us with prioritizing ESSER funding and developing our Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan.
In an effort to obtain parent and community feedback, we have developed a survey linked below. Please take a moment to share your input and opinions. Responses are due by Friday, September 23, 2022 and will be reviewed and taken into consideration as the District updates its plan. Your participation and feedback are valued and appreciated.

Sincerely,

Discovery/Gifted and Talented Program - Parent Referrals Due by October 21
Attention LTISD Parents and Guardians,
The Discovery Program, otherwise known as Gifted and Talented, is now accepting parent referrals for GT Screening via this google form.
Transfer students, who were already identified as GT coming from their previous district, should submit their google form as soon as possible, as the transfer student screening will be set within 30 days of the first day of school. Parents should send proof of their child's selection/participation in the previous GT program directly to the campus GT coordinator.
Parents can submit referrals for screening up until the end of the first 9 weeks, by October 21, 2022. Students will be tested during the 2nd 9 weeks of instruction. If the referral and permission forms are not submitted by the deadline, the student will have to wait until the next year's screening opportunity, as the spring screening session is only for students moving in new to the district after the fall testing window is closed.
The forms and further information about the program can be found here.
Once the request is submitted through the google form, the campus GT coordinator will contact parents via email when the testing dates are set and share additional information. Please plan to attend the Virtual Elementary GT Parent Event on October 14, at 11:30 AM, for an informative presentation about the program along with a Q&A session with your campus GT teacher.
You are also welcome to contact your campus GT coordinator directly, at any time, with questions. The West Cypress GT coordinator is Ms. Natalie Nowrocki.
Thank you,
Amanda Prehn | Director of Elementary Curriculum & Instruction
