What We're Studying and Learning...
Reading: We will spend the next two weeks reviewing concepts for the upcoming STAAR test. We'll make sure reading strategies to help with comprehension are streamlined and perfected. We'll read fiction and non-fiction works for practice. We'll keep studying poetry and throw in some fun ways to review that will keep us from losing our minds!!
We've also talked about perspectives and started a conversation wall about what we Love, Loathe, Worry, and Wonder about the STAAR test. It's been fun to get to talk about all of this with each other!
Writing: We are making a final copy of a story. Everyone has worked with a partner, used rubrics to check revising and editing and now they're trying to write in their best handwriting so the final copy looks amazing for readers!!
Grammar/Spelling/Handwriting: More and more students are transitioning to cursive handwriting! I encourage everyone to practice at home when you have free time. PARENTS- you should be writing notes in cursive so everyone can practice reading it! Just be sure to use your best third grade handwriting so the kids can understand what your message is!! (THAT'S the hardest part!!!!!!) We'll continue with our Daily Language Reviews in class. We are going to suspend spelling until Book Clubs are well moving. I will work on spelling as we write and read but will not have time set aside for it specifically.
Math: We are spending the next two weeks on reviewing concepts that are still tricky or troubling to students. I want them to feel confident about their work! I've got problems and games lined up to get them moving and thinking over the next two weeks.
Social Studies/Science: We are going to begin setting up for our economics unit this week and next. We'll be looking at personal finance and how important it is to spend, share, and save money. We'll discuss supply and demand as well.
