Newsletter for the March 27th, 2023
Message from Mrs. Chavira, Campus Principal
Rattler Community,
Our Rattlers have been very busy this past week. Early last week two of our Rattlers were able to address the board and present a proclamation to recognize the month of April as the Month of the Military Child. Kudos go out to Daniel and Skarlet for presenting the proclamation before the SISD School Board for approval.
We would also like to recognize our MATH BEE Campus champions. They attended the District Math Bee competition this weekend and their cumulative scores earned our campus the Sweepstakes Campus Award. A great BIG Shout-out to our students, teachers and our Math Bee Coordinator Mrs. Pina, Campus SCEI Coach. Finally, we would like to recognize our Rattler Cheer Squad. They attended the America's Cup Cheer Competition where they not early brought home the First Place in the Elementary Mount Division, but they also earned the Elementary Grand Champion Award. Thank you to all of our Cheerleaders and Parents for their support and hard word. A great big Thank you to our Coaches Ms. Brittany, Ms. Franco and Coach Jesus.
This week we continue great things at The Ranch with our Parent Teacher Conferences on Tuesday. As a reminder, it is our campus expectation to meet with 100% of our parents. Please make sure you are in contact with your child's teacher in order to make sure you meet with them on Tuesday or any day this week. We also have our Dual Language Academy Information Night. Please join us if you are interested in registering students that will be in PK, Kinder and 1st grade to the Dual Language Academy.

Getting Ready to Connect with Schoology
Socorro ISD parents will soon be able to connect with their child’s teacher, courses, and campus, all in one place via Schoology. Schoology is a Learning Management System that allows students to access their course materials from an online classroom.
Starting March 20, parents will be able to access their child’s course material, including assignments, assessments, and grades. Schoology is a system that is similar to learning management systems that colleges and universities across the country use. With this new tool, Socorro ISD is leading the way in preparing its students for greater success post-high school.
SISD parents can prepare to use Schoology starting this spring. They should ensure the listed primary parent of any student attending one of our SISD schools has a personal email on file with the district. If you are an educator and parent of a SISD student, please update your contact email to a personal email to ensure your parent account is created in a timely manner.
Join us for one of three Schoology Informational Meetings that will take place around our Feeder Pattern.
To learn more about Schoology, parents can visit the district’s Parent Support Center at sisd.net/sgyparents. The page includes FAQs with additional details about the Schoology Parent Portal.
Campus threats are no Joke
As a School Community, we realize that school now is very different than years ago. In Socorro ISD and Dr. Sue A. Shook Elementary, takes all campus or student threat very seriously. Incidents that involve students making threats to other students, adults, and/or school will be taken seriously, regardless of age. Students will be facing administrative consequences as stated in SISD Student Code of Conduct and if necessary may lead to an investigation by our campus SRO.
Please talk to your child about the consequences that come with making threats to others. We appreciate your support in this as it allows ALL of our Rattlers to be safe at School.

Attendance Reminders
We know our students will become ill throughout the year. For this reason it is important that when our students are healthy, they are attending school everyday. Lost instructional days do not only impact your child's education but also the education and dynamics of all students in the classroom. For this reason, MAKING EVERYDAY Count is critical for the success of your child and all students on campus.
The state of Texas holds administrators and parents accountable for attending school daily. At 5 absences or tardies, you will be asked to have a meeting with administration to make sure we are working together to educate your child. Please help support our teachers by brining in your children ready to learn. We thank you for making attendance a priority.
It is vital to submit a NOTE, from the doctor or a personal note, for EVERY absence to explain why the child missed school.
You can email all Personal and Doctors Notes to: attendancesueshook@sisd.net
