Pinehill School Newsletter

Message from our Principal
Kia ora koutou,
Pinehill School Celebrates Turning 25!
It has been a very special week so far, as we celebrate Pinehill School turning 25!
Celebrations started on Monday. The students were very excited to wear mufti and it’s fair to say we were a sea of bright, beautiful colour!
On Tuesday morning at 10:00am, we had a tree planting ceremony on the school field. Meri Kenrick led us through a blessing ceremony, during which we planted a beautiful yellow flowering pohutukawa tree to commemorate our 25th birthday.
Later on in the day we dedicated our Zoom assembly to our 25th birthday! We were treated to Room 7’s learning sharing, got to meet our 2022 house leaders online and we even had a special guest speaker, Julien Le Sueur attend assembly. Julian was the foundation principal of Pinehill School. It was wonderful to have Julien as part of our assembly and to hear his special memories of our special school.
We look forward to further celebrating 25 years with the wider community in Term 3.
Towards the end of last year, we came across an archive box which was full of treasure, including a time capsule, cards, posters and writings from Pinehill School’s foundation students. The archive box has been making its way through classrooms and students have been able to view and read the many messages. Many of our classes are adding to the archive box and working hard on creating cards, posters and writings to create new memories and descriptions of our time and place right now at 25 to add to the box, and for future celebrations and occasions.
House Leaders
Our 2022 house leaders were awarded their house badges during our assembly yesterday. Mr Mathers and Mr Yoo will continue to work closely with the leaders as their initiatives are planned out and put into place, as well as broadening their leadership opportunities within the school.
Meet my Teacher and Classmates online day
Thank you to the many families who attended the ‘Meet my Teacher and Classmates online day’. We had a great attendance at these zoom sessions. I know the students enjoyed sharing their learning, friends and classroom with you.
Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, engari he toa takitini
Success is not the work of one, but the work of many.

Pinehill School Behaviour Management
Our expectations, procedures and support plan were reviewed by staff, a parent group and BoT in 2021 and now include guidance for parents. Please look at the attached documents which will also be available on the school website.
The Pinehill Way outlines the values identified by our community as the foundation for constructive relationships and behaviour for all. Staff model positive behaviour and set expectations, knowing that wellbeing is a key element of the foundation for a ‘learning focused’ environment. The Pinehill Way is displayed in the playground, classrooms, the hall and available on the school website in several languages. We use Respect and Integrity, aim for Excellence, learn Resilience and to take Responsibility for actions and choices.
PART 2 - GRATITUDE
This week’s presentation from The Resilience Project focuses on Gratitude.
Gratitude is paying attention to the things that we have right now, and not worrying about what we don’t have. We practise this by noticing the positives that exist around us.
Research shows that practising gratitude rewires our brains to overcome the negativity bias (which can lead to anxiety and depression) and see the world for what we are thankful for. It is also shown to broaden thinking, and increase physical health through improved sleep and attitude to exercise.

There are many ways in which you can practise gratitude, including starting a Wellbeing Journal. In the image below are a few ideas to get started.

Sports News
Netball
Thank you for expressing an interest in winter netball 2022.
Netball is open to all children from years 2-6. Games are played at Pinehurst school on Saturday mornings through Kidzplay netball.
Fees for the season are approximately $55, Umpire fees are additional. Children will need to wear the Pinehill school red sports T Shirt and a black skirt and netball shoes.
Once the expression of interest has closed off, we will start to organise the teams, if required we will hold a trial to place children in teams. Every effort will be made to place your child in a team, however due to the number of children interested this may not be possible.
Once this process has been completed we will notify parents via email, inviting you to REGISTER and pay through Kindo.
*Teams will only be confirmed to go ahead if we have enough children and parent volunteers for the coach and manager positions, and fees are paid in full.*
Please fill in the expression of interest form and submit by 3.00pm Thursday 24th March.
