Principal's Corner
March is a very busy month with all the events coming up around the districts, but it’s also a time of year to remember the importance of reading. Reading at home with your child, or listening to your child read to you is a great way to keep them growing as readers.
Within this newsletter you will find some suggestions and guidelines for reading with your student.
Yours in education,
Christina Johnson
Principal

Notes from Music
March Greetings from the Music Room! 3rd graders have been hard at work learning and perfecting their songs for the 3rd grade Music Program which is coming up on Tuesday, March 22 at 7:00pm in the Fine Arts Center at Wayland High School. In 3rd grade we have been also learning new songs, reviewing, rhythms, learning about different musicians and moving to music.
2nd graders have been reviewing rhythms, learning about different musicians through literature and listening and moving to music. We also learned a little about Australia through songs and dancing. We had fun around Valentine's Day singing and dancing too!

Media Moments
Happy March!
Steeby has a lot of fun reading activities planned for reading month so be sure to check the Out of this World Reading Month calendar often. We have an author visit at Steeby on March 24th. The author is Buffy Silverman. She has written many nonfiction books. Here is a link to her website: https://buffysilverman.com/books/ where you can see all the amazing books she has written and learn more about her. There will be a flyer coming home soon to order books for the author visit. We will also be reading some of her books in media class to prepare for her visit.
In media class we have also been talking about being safe on the internet. Students have learned three rules for internet safety. 1. Keep personal information safe. 2. Keep away from internet strangers. 3. Keep telling a trusted adult if something makes you feel uncomfortable on the internet. Students also visited websites to learn about Internet Safety. Students visited Learning.com, FBI Cyber Safety and Ruff Ruffman on PBS kids. The websites can all be found on Information Place: https://sites.google.com/waylandunion.org/libraries/home.
Happy Reading!
