Happy New Year!
Happy New Year from the Koenig staff! We are hoping for you and your families a healthy and happy 2018. With that, it is hard to believe that Jan. 18th marks the end of Quarter 2 and the halfway mark of our school year. During this time, students will continue to set both academic goals as well as goals within the "Kids of Hope" theme. Kids at Hope’s vision is that every child is afforded the belief, guidance and encouragement that creates a sense of hope and optimism, supported by a course of action needed to experience success at life’s four major destinations: Home & Family; Education & Career; Community & Service; and Hobbies & Recreation. Your children have set goals within these four categories and we will strive to help them reach their potential! No Exceptions!
January Character Trait On Perseverance
This month we are coordinating classroom activities around the theme of “Perseverance.” Students are reminded daily of trying and trying again even when things get difficult. Strive to reach your goals. Keep your confidence up and feel good about yourself. The students and I will meet on Monday, January 8th to share what this looks and sounds like in our every day lives! This will also be a day to celebrate being a part of our grade level teams where students will wear their grade level tee shirts here at school.
Below are some great teaching points for discussion at home:
I always do my best; I strive for excellence.
I am willing to risk failure for a worthy goal.
I am self-disciplined.
I make sure to learn from my mistakes and failures.
I try to see the big picture and think long term.
I set goals and stay focused.
I don't give up just because things seem difficult.
I don't procrastinate.
I think I am / am not a diligent person because: ___________________
Take a moment to talk with your child about these statements!
Working together to determine what CAFE (Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency and Expanded Vocabulary) looks like in the classroom.
Discussing how we determine individual student needs in the area of reading.
Just one component of the work that was done!
Winter Weather Clothing
Recently, we have had a lot of missing snow pants, boots, hats and mittens. Although we do our best to make sure your child puts their items into their lockers, they sometimes forget their items in different parts of the building. Please label all items on the inside tags with your child’s initials. Thank you!
No School Day
There will be no school on Friday, January 19th for the end of third quarter. Therefore, there will not be any CLC on Thursday, January 18th as well. Please mark your calendars!
Reminder About Student Absences
Student attendance at school is not only important for academic success, but it also helps to build good work habits. While students do get sick from time to time, absences over 10 days in a school year are usually viewed as excessive.
Attendance can be a touchy subject for some, but needs to be taken seriously. A temperature over 100 degrees and vomiting are two symptoms that point to the need to stay home. We would rather have them stay home for 24 hours after a fever to completely heal.
Please also call the school 794-7522 before 9:00 a.m. if your child is sick. Thank you!
